Infamous Timber Tycoon Arrested

A well-known Vietnamese timber trader was arrested yesterday after police claimed she attempted to strong-arm them and retake confiscated wood by force, a senior national military police officer said yesterday. Colonel Heng Y, a spokesman for the National Military Police, said Heng Samneang, also known as Yeay Proeung, is a businesswoman living in Preah Bath commune in Stung Treng town.
 

Ms. Samneang was arrested after she brazenly showed up at the provincial forest department in the O-Pong Moan area within Sre Krasaing commune at 4am yesterday with 11 men and two big trucks, demanding that luxury wood confiscated from her be returned. “She brought two big trucks and 11 workers and surrounded the provincial forestry department office in order to take the seized timber,” Col. Y told Khmer Times yesterday.
 

“She was arrested by our military police on real offenses after she attempted to take her timber from the provincial forestry administration.” Col. Y said the 11 men with Ms. Samneang managed to escape, but police were searching for them.

All her other offenses are less real compared with the real offense of taking something from officials
