I remember that one. I didn't buy any from it because I thought the prices were too high. It's just ice cream to most.

Same reason I don't buy NZ meat. Far too expensive.

Silly you, NZ meat is the best in the world. If it is too expensive it is because the vendors are rip off merchants. NZ ice cream is far better than Svensons.

And Svensons don't have Hoky Poky.

you talk about exaggeration  :giggle:

New Zealand ice cream has not been replaced by another shop! It's just a group of suitcases out in the open.

Or if not that, and outright lying, then nitpicking. Retail outlet, vendor, out-in-the-open shop, duh. Big infrastucture not necessary. NZ wasn't technically a shop but mostly a counter, fancy signboard & some chairs, right? Maybe even that was too much overhead. ;)

I mean I've lost count of how many of these places there are now and it's almost like a last resort instead of keeping the place looking bare.

and it's not doom and gloom it simply predicting a trend that we will see a lot more of.

In our centralized TVF Bureau of Economic Planning, we always know how many of a place is needed. The latest one is always one too many. In fact in most cases the rule is Only One Is Needed. :)

Yet Westerners have never understood how so many shops in Asia can sell the same things, in close proximity to one another, yet still remain open. Guess it's just gonna have to remain one o' them Mysteries Of The Orient. Nor is there any reason to exaggerate and try to blow up one's little disappointment into some overarching economic trend.

pnly you consider it a superfluous failed ice cream shop. The loyal customers init's  650 ice cream parlours   in more than 24 countries obviously don't think the same way as you.

I bet if you thought long and hard you could figure out why that point is entirely inapplicable.

But the consensus in this very thread is against you as nobody has agreed he'll miss it. Swensen's seems popular, though.

So in the end all you've got is, "A particular shop counter selling ice cream I like and would pay for is gone and I'll miss it." That's it. On the positive side, the corporate owner of NZ Ice Cream has finally realized that it had misjudged the potential market at that location and has stopped losing money there.

Happens all the time; no need to get one's knickers in a twist. Subway, for example, was years ago never very popular at its tiny S. Pattaya Rd. @ Walking St. location. It pulled out; just recently it opened a Jomtien location. So the departure of NZ Ice Cream has opened an opportunity for a luggage vendor, retail outlet, out-in-the-open shop. Next time you need a suitcase . . . :)

So many balloons! :) As I've noted, though you're allowed to make assertions about other malls, my response would simply be deleted, as I'd be off topic. Be patient: as soon as that mall is finished, if not before, we'll have a massive outbreak of TVF New Construction Syndrome--and accordingly a therapeutic thread wherein you may posture and join fellow choristers.

Great - sounds like you've been warned for your traditionally pompous, pseudo-intellectual, thread-busting rants.

yes actually the point of this thread wasn't to argue about ice cream taste but to point out that retail outlets are obviously struggling here.when you say you don't care we should care because without a minimum number of successful tenants in any shopping centre to provide a critical mass the place can't survive in the long run. It doesn't bode well for Terminal 21:sad:

I disagree. Given the atrocious traffic on Beach and Second ( backed up from Central Rd to the Lek hotel tonight ) when it's not even high season, I would suggest that Terminal 21 will do well from the car transported customers coming from Bkk.

For New Zealand Natural lovers, there is still one small outlet in Pattaya.  The outlet is a small, outdoor shop on Second Road, between Hotel Baraquda and The Avenue Pattaya.  The selection is much smaller than the former shop at Central Festival.

but there will only ever be a certain number of potential tenants and in this global economic environment they will be looking for the cheapest deal. Just a few metres  down the road and on the same side there will be the newly refurbished and considerably expanded Central Plaza that will surely be able to substantially undercut terminal 21 regarding rent.

The Hawaiian restaurant and a whole raft of  mobile phone shops at Harbor Mall closed too.

That's a shame. I loved their pancakes and free coffee for 99 baht .  Hawaiian restaurant in a Thai mall is maybe not the first choice for a profitable business.

Regarding New Zealand icecream , it's actually a popular chain in Thailand even if it's expensive.  I would not be surprised if they decided to relocate to Terminal 21 when they open.

As I said, didn't think their ice-cream was that good; if I'm feeling premium on a given day, I go for Hagen Daz, otherwise, Swensen's is perfectly adequate.

I agree. For quality Hagen Daz is excellent and DQ or a McDonald's cone or sundae are fine otherwise.

Certainly not in a generally weak economic environment.
