The pics posted within this thread of him and a buddy sitting on scooters drinking beers.  It's almost as if that was part of a service announcement of what can happen but without the actors.  Not implying he was drunk but still pretty rotten judgement if this was the case.

I hope you were not referring to me as "his gym buddy", as it was more being offside on posters slamming the family and deceased; this was mentioned earlier.  The donation part is the family's business and I have no idea what kind of expenses they have as I'm giving the benefit of doubt that they're in tatters and are taking advice and not using this to their benefit.  Yes, many of us old hands know how it works here but just dropping a family that doesn't know the system into a situation like this and proceed as if they know the law of the land?

Four points:

 

1. You say "...the donation part is the family's business..." , strange other postings indicate the donation process was started by the gym club friends.

 

2.  Again, if the family is so well off why are they needing donations? Transferring own funds from US to Thailand is very easy and very fast.

Well if you had read all of the thread it seems we have figured out that the girlfriend is fine and doesn't seem to need funds.

However, read what you wrote and think about it.  They have raised $103,500 as of now plus there is a nightclub fundraiser going on that won't be included in that number.  Don't you think the public should have some idea exactly what the money will be spent on?  Do you really believe "whatever they need it for is not relevant?"  So if his sister decides she wants to drive his $150K Jaguar when she returns and needs to make the payments for the next 2 years with the money from this fundraiser, that is fine with you?  How much did you donate?

Don't overly fret so much about money and who has it and who doesn't, since how does it make your life any better or worse?  I could care less how much people have.

That's not my concern and I don't know why people are fretting over it.  You'd be surprised still how many people are seriously in the weeds here.  Case in point the numerous questions asked daily on TV on matters that one should know prior to coming here or pretty much anywhere else in the world.

I'm not following that last one as those were separate statements that I've made.  I was just referring that I was an acquaintance of him and the ref on the "old hand" is how someone that is more familiar would react in a similar situation.  Similar to the answer above.

 

I didn't want to come off as a "fanboy" or "white knight" when I first posted.  It's just tough when families lose someone unsuspectingly in a foreign land.  I know, it happens all the time as it has happened in my extended family many years ago.  But, reading the thread and some of it's post was harsh.

Yes, your right, losing someone you know is painful and to have people talk about something they don't know the full facts to isn't very tasteful.

The money side isn't really the side that bothers me. It's the accident itself.

Why is there no news articles in Thai media about this?

Where was the accident?
What was the reason?
Which hospital was he sent to?

I can find nothing on this in Thai language on the internet.

Is there any evidence of this accident?

I think they're so desensitized that this is not really news anymore, they report on the biggies like buses and when numerous ppl are killed/hurt.  Someone posted stats once that about 26K+ die each year from traffic related accidents, and this is what is reported.  I guess the Thai media doesn't think much of his status either.

@Tony - I'll even expand on this as some ppl here think he's part of "this scheme" and getting cheques from YT.

 

To the best of my knowledge, he's not part of ownership other than maybe some perks as he was only an online contributor; they have quite a few.  I know the co-owner of the site had done a an online dedication to him.

 

Yes, ppl feel everything is a scam now and don't know how much dedication it takes to improve ones health through exercise and eating well.  The days of the informercial in the 90's in the wee hours with all the gadgets would come out with promises have been replaced with the internet, and YT is leading the way on how ppl are now training.  Yes, there are some individuals on there that have no business giving out advice but they hide behind a persona they've developed to gain their following.

 

Time to move on from this thread.  I hope in time the individuals affected by this tragedy time will find their peace.

I won't get into a public pi$$ing contest Tony, so I've sent a couple of PM's, but let me say that when a marketing campaign uses 'sweeteners' like "Click here to see if you qualify" (anybody and everybody will qualify if the put up the $$), and "You're not guaranteed your $100 discount" (pushing the reader to act NOW, and everybody qualifies), I know there is some dodgy marketing going on.

 

Whatever, it's sad to see a  young guy die, but I think having the family chiseling away on gofundme for cash is distasteful when he appears to have been a young man of some financial substance..
