Bali Hai Sunset restaurant ordered demolished

Bali Hai Sunset Restaurant was given 45 days to be taken down after it was discovered to be built almost entirely on public property.

PATTAYA:-- Pattaya has ordered that the Bali Hai Sunset restaurant on Cozy Beach be demolished for encroaching on public land.

Acting Mayor Chanapong Sriviset issued the order Oct. 8 after repeated warnings to property owner Ampan Thanwan that her 100-sq.-meter eatery and 81-sq.-meter balcony were erected on public property.

Land surveyor Kris Cherdsuriya said more than 80% of the restaurant encroached on public land, meaning the entire structure needed to be removed.

that's a shame because it's a fabulous location.

that means the other restaurant at the other end of the car park and directly next to the lighthouse should get all the customers:sad:

A fabulous location for an illegal restaurant and it's demolition will mean that the public will then be able to access a fabulous beach location.

considering how big that beach is that restaurant has never restricted accessibility in any way. There are already steps leading down from the car park at the side of the restaurant. No problem

Several restaurants on the beach in Phuket suffered the same fate.

Walking St next???

Only the beach side.

It seems rediculous, but they tore done everything on surin beach phuket, ,,which was quite upmarket and now is just empty and covered in trash. The hotels along there are all going broke AS a result.

. That side of walking street is a goner.,

If that photo is representative of the state of the beach I wouldn't want to go to it.

If they start with the first bar at the other end of walking street,

i will take them seriously.

until then , business as usual.

20+ years on and counting. :jap:

The bar / restaurant AT the lighthouse has gone but the shack at the end of the car park to which I guess you refer is still there.

So the restaurant owner was warned in october that the place was encroaching.  When was the restaurant construction approved or started?  Is this a brand new place?   Knowing how some things work over there, I wonder if the financial backing was from some foreigner and he was assured by his Thai contacts that building the place would be no problem.

good point! no it's been there for ages. There was previously a Russian occupier and it looked like they went out of business and then there was a huge refurbishment carried out and while that was taking place I noticed a foreigner park  his BMW there a few times.

No. It's a long story. As soon as they built their first terrace they got encroaching problems. I read on another article that they already got a demolition order 8 years ago (!),  but for "some reason" the order has never been executed. Now that Military have the power, many such "blockings" are removed and justice orders executed.
