Where can I buy acid in Chiang Mai?

The water in my drip irrigation system is alkaline and I need to balance it with Nitric and Sulphuric acid. Apparently there is an agricultural shop in the center of Chiang Mai but the locals don't have the ability to give directions, so I'm a bit stuck.

I sympathize with your problem. It's not a matter of language skills... I'm sure you can understand more than enough Thai to find your way. It's the local cultural manner in which directions are given... "It's over that way, not far." Or "Go to the big road and turn. You should see it." Often, the response is simply pointing in a general direction with a smile, as if that clears up everything.  It reminds me of asking directions in rural New England and hearing "Another 3-4 miles then turn down the old road, left I think, a just go a ways down that road past where Asriel Fisk's barn used to be and watch for the turn-off near the Maple tree that got hit by lightning back in '78. You can't miss it."

I have often found it valuable here ... if you can get the information ... to know the name of a Wat near your destination.

Thanon cheu ary ? what's the street name ?

Soi ber ary ? what's the Soi number ?

Lan Khun glai Wat mai ? is your shop near a Wat ?

Wat glai lan Khun cheu ary ? what is the name of the Wat near your shop ?

cheers, o:37~

Quite correct, locals have used Wats for identifying locations since probably before streets/paths had names.

Also, Thais often have little need for skills at giving directions because on their first trips to a new places they are  commonly taken by somebody who knows the way.
