3bb Jomtien - abysmal in the last 3 days

3bb service (VDSL 50) in Jomtien has been abysmal for the last 3 days - it began with a 3 hour outage 3 days ago where the line was totally down and since then I experience internittent disconnects sometimes as frequent as every 5 minutes!

Also sometimes routing to/from international sites appears to breakdown.

Does anyone have the same problems?

I used to have the 3BB 10 mbs ADSL and a few days ago foolishly switched to the "30 mbs" VDSL. I now get 7 mbs !!

This may not be a fault. The VDSL offer is for high speeds within Thailand but much lower speeds outside of Thailand, due to deliberate throttling. When I enquired I was advised by several different 3BB staff not to switch from my old ADSL package as it gives a better connection outside of Thailand. This has been quite widely discussed in several threads here.

To test the real capacity of your connection you should do a speed test to a Thai server. The technicians will always use Thai servers for speed tests.

3bb service is still down today. what are they doing?

Working fine here.

Your line is faulty. Call them. I have always found them to be very responsive and they have always repaired my line the next day at the latest.

Last week abysmal for me in South Pattaya. Never any total outage, but painfully slow. Called them. There was a fault in my line within the building. Now pretty good speeds.

Yes i tested to the Bangkok server, much lower than my old ADSL.

3bb just came, the line was fine indeed!

at first they scratched their heads as to why i had no connection, but then the guy reset the socket on the dslam, and bam! great speed now

What is this 'dslam' and how did he reset the socket on it ? My guess is that it's something which is in their local offices which only they have access to ?

Having the same problem in Chiang Mai in and out in and out. I call them and they hit the reset button and everything is fine for a day or two. Then it starts over again. They say the "technician" will contact me and he calls the next day and asks how the service is and I say at present its fine but what is causing the problem he answers "we don't  know but we are looking into the matter goodbye"  guess calling them and asking them to hit the reset button will become a daily thing. Best to stick with the devil that you know. I have found in the past that switching is like stepping from the frying pan into the fire.

Put very simply, the DSLAM is the ISP's modem at the other end of the phone line. From there the ISP has some better connection to their servers (fibre, for example) and from there to the internet.

If your line is in good order then your modem will connect to the DSLAM, but if there is a problem further down the line then you will still have no connection to their servers or the internet.

The call centre can reset the DSLAM remotely and this is usually one of the things that they try if you call them to report a fault. It's the equivalent of unplugging and re-plugging your own modem, which is the other thing they usually get you to try.

Well, in simple terms it's still a line problem ie something exterior to your equipment/dwelling that affects you and few others, if any. The call centre usually spots that problem instantly when you contact them.

Either way, certainly not a generalised problem.

In that case there must be something wrong. VDSL should always be faster to Thai servers. You should call them and let them know.

Presumably you have tried restarting the modem and have checked the phone leads?

My 3BB connection has also been sluggish over the past 4-5 days.

I suspect there has been some change. By this I am 100% directly referring to a possible 'single gateway' being introduced.

I use a VPN in the US all the time and I have really noticed a big difference since last week.

My 3bb in Rayong is usually pretty good.

But last week it was off. We had pretty good thunderstorm the night before. Had the misses call and they checked from their end and said there was problem with the line down the road. They had it repaired in about five hours from the phone call.

Can't complain about that. Good service.

actually, the "line" was really fine, I mean the physical transport layer, level 1, possibly 2 by OSI model. But layer 3, aka packet transport didn't work.

I had called the hotline for 3 days straight and they didn't reset the socket.
