ROME: -- Italy’s Civil Protection authorities find themselves responding to a fourth natural disaster in three months. Euronews’ Sabrina Pisu found out the latest from department head Fabrizio Curcio.

Fabrizio Curcio, Head of Civil Protection Department

“At the moment, people are staying away from their houses. Many are going to hotels on the coast or in other areas.

We have assembled others outdoors in safe areas, or in safe buildings. We are now evaluating the situation on the roads, health facilities and the water quality. We want to have a full picture of the state of all the infrastructure and we are taking care of those affected by the earthquake.”

Sabrina Pisu, euronews

“Do you have some figures on the number of displaced and buildings that were destroyed?”

Fabrizio Curcio

“A couple of thousand people, maybe more, have already spilled out onto the coast, others are shifting to other areas. The number is very big. We’ll have a better idea of more exact figures when all the people affected have been recorded.”
