Opened Mail

Featured Replies

Yes I know it has happened many times before, although never to me but as a little reminder of what can happen to your mail.  Neatly razored down the side.   A letter was missing but I hope they enjoyed reading the booklet about the King George V fund for sailors  which my pension  company included.

I've received about 3 letters like that over the yeas and never understood what it was about as the P.O. would surely have put official tape on it, stamped it, etc. The funny thing was that the last one which was only about 8 months ago, contained two of my credit cards, forwarded by my friend in the USA. Both cards still in there untouched when I got the envelope!

The norm (!) if it has been opened officially is to mark it as such and then seal it.  You were lucky with your cards as they could have fallen out.  Perhaps someone thinking there might be cash inside!

That looks as if it may have been torn in a sorting machine.

What type of contraband would normally be posted from the UK in such  unremarkable  packaging.

Subscriptions to "Knave" or "Mayfair" ?

I once had a similar heavy-letter from Jersey, which was opened in-transit & then re-sealed, by UK-Customs.

But would reckon that at-least 10% of my inbound-mail here fails to be delivered.

I've been told when this happens they are looking for pornographic material.      I was told that by a friendly Thai postman.

Fortunately the banks attach the cards to the inserts with an adhesive.

I've lost many letters as they leave or arrive Chiang Mai. Even if they arrive, they take over 2 weeks to reach the UK. I avoid using snail mail as much as possible. Occasionally, I send something via an international courier company. The problem is when my UK bank sends me new cards. It's hit or miss whether they come through.

New cards should always be requested they are sent via FedEx or DHL...  I would never trust anything using Thai postal service unless it's being sent within Thailand...and then it's still questionable.

Happened to me a few times, because the 3-digit condo number easily gets confused with another one (i.e. 312 and 321) and letters end up in the wrong postbox. I've opened letters before now that weren't to me (didn't check first) but ended up in my postbox. Happens...

On the other hand, I have to agree that post office services are sometimes anywhere between sub-par and non-existing...

He is clearly internet challenged.

Maybe you can show him how to get access the particular genre he prefers?

But as has been said if they, the Thai P.O., opens something, they retape it and indicate it was opened by them or that it arrived torn and was sealed by them. Surely your friendly Thai postman ought to know that.

As Dipterocarp said, the item in the photo looks like it was a flimsy envelope that was torn en route. I've never had anything sent to me in Thailand that went missing or appear to have been tampered with, aside from Customs inspections with resealing indicating that it was officially opened.

Things sent to Thailand are not handled only by the Thai Post Office. In my experience, neither the US nor British postal services can be assumed to be blameless.

I doubt he meant that someone was searching for porn for personal pleasure but rather for official expropriation. Mailing porn is still considered illegal, but as you say, it's hard to imagine anyone bothering to mail it since it is readily available on the internet... or so I've been told. The friendly Thai postman may have been pulling Trainman's leg, so to speak.

I am surprised your bank will send a card to you in Thailand and not use a courier service. I usually get a letter from my UK bank telling me my card is about to expire. I call them and tell them to send the new one by courier which they do.

Courier companies refuse to carry bank cards - And none of my UK would accept my requests to send my cards to me by courier.

Yes, I also have heard from aquaintances that a huge amount is available on the internet, despite the Thai porn police wasting millions of baht on silly attempts to block it. Which I believe is an attempt to pursuade perpetrators to stop self-abuse and visit the ubiquitous brothels so that the boys in the tight brown tunics can make some extra money.

Neatly razored down the side

Not in my opinion - very jagged tear probably caused by the amount of mail in it or as said sorting machines.

......what to do......

...anything can be done against 'us'......

...what to do....???

...take any measures for justice....or accountability from 'them'....you will be destroyed one way or another....

...and they very well know it....

I have had problems using  Post branches to send mail out. I file reimbursement claims for medicine with my insrance company every quarter, One of the four will not make it. I watch to make certain they put the postage on the envelope. I suspect they were cutting it off for resale and throwing the mail away. Have gone back to using main post branches with no problems. Incoming packages are sometimes opened by the PO but nothing has ever been missing and a PO seal was used to close it.

To quote our Mandy, he would say that, wouldn't he?

Everyone I know here has had mail that has been tampered with or gone missing. As Thais generally regard all falangs as wealthy, I guess this is hardly surprising. But it IS darned annoying, to say the least.

Courier companies refuse to carry bank cards - And none of my UK would accept my requests to send my cards to me by courier.

From the US courier companies will send bank cards, I also receive them be regular mail, never lost one in 25+ years, mail to PO Box, courier to house. Lucky I guess.

Don't they know they can get it free on the internet ?

When did that start or is that just a UK thing? It's been nearly 2 years but my last American Express card was sent and received via FedEx.
