BURIRAM — As cool weather looms over Thailand, a public school in Buriram has confiscated brightly colored children’s jackets for being deemed inappropriate to wear during mourning period.

At the start of the school day Thursday, the director of Nangrong School, Somsak Taemsoaksoong, stood in front of the flagpole and announced that students should not wear brightly colored winter jackets, urging them to opt for black, gray or white ones instead.

Poor kids.  that is just barbaric and there he is in his bright blue shirt.

So who directs the 'Director' = Hypocrite comes to mind!

Very poor area. Those are probably the only nice things they have to wear. Idiot!

Pathetic.

It takes a certain kind of loser to take a coat from a cold child. And shame on the passive parents.

Contradictory statements from the director about how this was handled all coming down to spitting the dummy about the staff having to wear black for a year. The students aren't state employees and their families shouldn't feel obliged to buy clothing that some can ill afford.

So the school is taking mourning seriously and the director wants everyone to know it.

Like Little Jack Horner, " What A Good Boy Am I ! "

Easy solution would be for the school to hand out free black ribbons for the students to wear on their jackets.

What a moron, and he looks like an <deleted> van driver to boot.

School director my bottom !

He could not direct traffic, he and his precious staff are sulking because they have to wear black for a whole year, so they take it out on the kids.

The parents should have a quiet word with him to put up and shut up, but we know it wont happen as everyone is brain washed.

I thought kids were exempt from having to wear black

Didn't take long for the MO to rear it's ugly head. This is less to do with mourning than face.

If the government hears of it and has some nous/compassion, they should pressure this school to provide each and every child with an appropriately coloured jacket. Make a big issue out of it as the director has done and put him right in his place.

He probably has a family member who has a nice business selling black winter jackets.

Put your money where you mouth is, director - buy all the kids that don't have one a black jacket.

Show the local community what a good, loyal and patriotic man you are. You could get you name in the paper as the most Thai person in Buriram. Someone's bound to cut you a check for that.

is he going to pay for the replacement jackets if not give them back

"The temperature in Buriram this morning was a relatively chilly 23°C."

The photo is clearly stated as taken in August.

What a sloth. Sunnies, gawdy shirt and hands in pockets. A fine photographic depiction of a street yob or daytime bar fly.

Arrogant imbecile

They did give them back.

"“We’re not forcing them,” Somsak said when reached for comment. “We’re just asking for cooperation from students. There weren’t many children breaking the rules anyway.”

The fact you took the jackets away (albeit temporarily) means you are forcing them somsak.

Easy to criticize someone you don't know. He's done a lot for this school and community and works harder than most of you.

Obviously young people's edumacation, health, welfare take a back-seat to acceptable mourning attire. Good to see where the priorities are.

and you cant order people to mourn or say how they should mourn, everybody mourns in their own way

I take it you do know this director so jumping to his defence if you think he's being wronged is understandable but do you know the ' most of us ' to make the sweeping statement he works harder ?

“Others will think the teachers at this school aren’t educating the students. We need to ingrain teachings about society into the children."

Makes it clear what his priorities are.

Must be coming up on contract-renewal time, eh?

Is he hoping his comments will be seen further up the chain, maybe all the way to the top ?

That picture says it all -- it's not about the kids, nor the school, it's about him. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"

But that picture was taken in August, as the caption clearly states, so no problem with his shirt then. Why don't people read before they write inane comments?
