Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha

BANGKOK" -- Thailand should organise its own domestic affairs before showing interest in the US presidential election, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said yesterday.

“Just wait and listen [to the election results],” Prayut said at his weekly news briefing. “We have our own pride. We are the pillar of Asean.

“We have to continue foreign affairs. More trade and investment is coming,” the premier said. “So when will we get settled, especially on political stability? First, we have to use laws to solve domestic conflicts. It will just remain like this if we don’t … solve them.”

Indeed. Never listen to those nasty farangs.

The ' Pillar of Asean ' ?

Could he get any further up himself ?

So an admittance of political instability!!! I agree with him that focusing on more foreign affairs. I would like to give a bit of advice, You have to give as well as take. Number one principle required for partnerships to work.

Yes but the pillar is hollow, decaying and ready to collapse from the constant undermining of its foundations by the military

You are right: just staggering in its self-delusion.

"......more trade and investment is coming,”  Rejoice everyone, you will all soon be rich.

Trade and investment wealth coming (maybe) in one door - rice subsidies going out the other door.

Pillars of Asean?

In a previous article I read

they are not even ready for it yet........ :coffee1:

Just for the record and to prove Thailand is NOT the economic pillar of Asean here are the recorded GDP growths of Thailand and it's neighbours for last year.

Myanmar 8.5%

Laos 7.50%

Philippines 7.0%

Vietnam 6.5%

Indonesia 4.7%

Malaysia 4.7%

Thailand 2.5%

I think it is a mistranslation.

That explains all the pole dancing.

Sad thing is he actually believes all the nonsense that comes out of his mouth.

Let's see, that should be in the 2032 race?

Be very sure not to give the total GDP figures. Or the total trade figures. ;)

More like the vampire of ASEAN.

Nothing that the stake of democracy can't cure.

"We are the pillar of Asean"... Ahem..

"!

“We have our own pride. We are the pillar of Asean.

So our number one priority at the moment is bending over as far as we can for the Chinese.

who is growing fastest is not quite as important as over all GDP. thailand has about 1.1 billion of ASEANS total 7.3 billion GDP. thats about 15% of the total. Indonesia seems to be more like the pillar of the ASEAN group.

Whichever the country happens to be the pillar of the economic ASEAN group you can bet it is NOT Thailand. Thailand is fast becoming an ASEAN basket case. I hope that does not happen but the fact it is being run by a military government works against my good hope.

That's all the usual ace TVF economist's undefended assertion deserves. Next.
