rooster59
Navy takes delivery of five helicopters BANGKOK:-- The Royal Thai Navy took delivery of a fleet of five Airbus EC645 T2 mid-sized helicopters to be based at the second air wing in Sattahip naval base. Presiding over the ceremony to take delivery of the choppers was RTN commander-in-chief Admiral Na Areenit and senior naval officers at Sattahip naval base in Chon Buri province. The EC645 T2 helicopters were upgraded with the installation of Fenestron rotor which will increase safety while airborne or landing and reduce noise as well as vibration. They were also fitted with upgraded gear system and laser targetting. Full story: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/navy-takes-delivery-of-five-helicopters/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2016-11-12 . jerojero
Laser targeting? Won't be used ever. Waste of money. Country could easily afford 10x downsizing of the military. Save billions of baht.
nausea
Whatever, a bit more useful than submarines or aircraft carriers; small patrol boats and helicopters is the way to go, of course that won't push you up the world's military rankings. Save billions of baht. Unfortunately the whole world is rearming its military due to terrorism and super power bullies. It's about time Thailand got some new helicopter after the several tragic accidents of old helicopters recently.
ClutchClark
These are now designated H145M. They are very solid airships with all the latest technologies and an excellent replacement for the aging fleet of Hueys. The Thai bashing can start again now. goldenbrwn1
Maybe give the royal Thai police a couple. I've always wondered why the police in Thailand do not operate dedicated helicopters . In a major city like Bangkok you would think they do. I imagine there maybe a few funny replies to this one and a few have passed by mind but it would be nice for an actual knowledgeable reply aswell. They can't maintain their carrier, or the jets brought for it, many choppers have failed to return, and these are NOT commercial aircraft.

However, these units were sold to the ARMY, not the navy who have responsibility for sea rescue. The helicopters are marketed for light utility service which can include search and rescue. The typical use though is military and police servce A number of air ambulance services do use the aircraft, but the helicopters are not configured for that. The purchase is for army use. I have no issues with that because Thailand has an inadequate fleet and needed modern equipment immediately.
