I recently attended Meuang Chonburi Amphur the place I was married many years ago to update my Kor Ror 2.  In the past I've always had to attend this amphur where I married due to the old marriage registry entry not being on-line throughout the country.

i was pleasantly surprised to be informed that all registry entries, regardless of what year those persons were married (in my case over 20 yrs) can now be activated on-line at the Amphur where you were originally married, i.e. you can now update a Kor Ror 2 at any Amphur in Thailand.

I would think this would not affect too many people who were married to a Thai over 20 yrs who have lost, mislaid or whatever their original marriage cert and have to resort to a Kor Ror 2 in order to obtain the required visa or extension, but good to know.

Usual docs required, copies of wifes ID, your passport, marriage cert.  The fee remains the same B20 per copy of the KR2.

Over past four years I have not had a problem getting the KR2 from various district offices and my marriage was over 45 years ago registered in a different province.

my marriage was registered at the thai Abu Dhabi embassy 16 years ago...where d'you suppose that I can get a copy of my marriage certificate or kor sor 2 without having to go back to Abu Dhabi?

Was your marriage also registered in Abu Dhabi? I think a copy of that marriage certificate was needed to register your marriage at the Thai embassy there.

Not sure an embassy would of issued a Kor Ror 2.

Did you also register your marriage at an Amphoe here as well?

we got married at the embassy who issued the certificate so I presumed that any registration would be done auto as well...

and naw, never saw any need to register the wedding certificate locally...the marriage extension kor sor 2 application requirement is relatively new and I got a retirement extension for now...but I may need to change to a marriage extension when the money gets tighter as it surely will...

Yes, that may well be so, but was it an on-line copy you received or a registry copy (two different forms)?  If it was a registry copy,  the amphur where you obtained a KR2 would not have those details and therefore would have to contact the Amphur where you were married to obtain the relevant details.

What I am saying is whether you have been married 1 or 45 years, you are now able to obtain a KR2 from ANY amphur in Thailand by informing the Amphur where you were married to activate the on-line process.

I suggest you and your wife go to the local Amphoe to find out about registering your marriage there to get a Kor Ror 2 or 22.

The Kor Ror 2 or 22 is not that new a requirement at immigration. I think it started 5 or 6 years ago.

As I stated, if you have been married to a Thai for a considerable amount of yrs, you were only able to obtain a KR2 from the Amphur where you were married.  As I have now learnt,  regardless of the length of time you have been been married, you can now request the Amphur where you were married to activate the process on-line in order that you can obtain that KR2 from any Amphur in Thailand.

As I reside quite a distance from Chonburi, this info came as a pleasant surprise.

I was afraid of approaching the local tesseban as with the local banks when they see a falang, gulp...the wife is also hesitant for that reason...and what will they think when they see a document issued by the Abu Dhabi embassy? double gulp...('Abu Dhabi?' 'yes, Abu Dhabi...it's a place where the arabs live...' 'arabs?')

kor sor 2 not a new requirement? I guess I been away too long, 4 years in saudi on back to back assignments...a place where time stands still...

but we'll havta go down sometime and at least make the attempt to register at the tesseban...but in the meantime anyone else in a situation the same as mine?

Yes, but once again, you didn't answer my actual question. What does "activate online" mean?

Do you have to actively take some action in order to have your prior marriage become available in the records at other amphurs? And what, if you don't take that action, then your prior marriage remains unavailable at other amphurs?

It means the Amphoe where the marriage was registered has to enter the data from the original Kor Ror 2 in their database. After it is entered then it can be obtained at any Amphoe.

Some people have had to travel to that Amphoe to request it be done. Others were able to do it by phone and fax.

The first year we went to get a KR2, thinking we would both have to sign a legal document, I went with the wife to the local ampur, Only to sit there in silence, as my wife handed over a copy of her ID card and 20B. The next year and subsequent years, she went alone and needed a copy of ID.

This year i mentioned to her that I would need it, without prompting she had some freetime and went to the ampur without a printout of her ID card  - they just handed it over after checking her ID card, let alone a copy, marriage cert or my passport.
