I have a single entry tourist visa which I recently extended by 30 days at immigration. It is due to expire early next month. Can I get another single entry tourist visa at Choeng Chom or must I go to Vientiane? Also I am going to UK after Christmas does that mean that I will lose the time that remains on my visa & will have to apply for another one in the UK before I return to Thailand?

There is no embassy or consulate at Choeng Chom to apply for a tourist visa at.

You could get a 30 day visa exempt entry there if you are from the UK by crossing into Cambodia and returning.

You would have to go to Vientiane or Savannakhet to get a tourist visa. If you got one you could get a re-entry permit to keep the remainder of the 60 day entry valid when you return from your trip.

Thanks Ubon.

Is the tourist visa issued on the same day?

Also is there a limit on how many tourist visas & extensions I can get?

There is not same day service. You apply the morning of one day and pickup the next afternoon.

If you are going to be in the UK long enough to apply for the tourist visa there I suggest you do a border hop for a visa exempt entry at Choeng Chom.  It looks good on your visa history to get one in your home country.

There is no limit on tourist visa or the 30 day extension. The only limit is the number you can get back to back at some nearby locations.

You can get a re-entry permit to keep the remainder of the 60 day entry from your visa valid when you enter the country at immigration or at either airport in Bangkok on departure from the country.

the desk for the re entry permit at suvarnabhumi is located after security and before immigration.  it used to be in the first departure hall (near the C, D, E, F check in areas) but it may have moved to the other departure hall (the other end of the hall).   i saw something about that a few days ago.  i forget the cost of the permit but i think i paid 200thb for the people to 'process the stuff'.  they filled out the form, took a picture, made copies, etc....  again, that didn't include the cost of the re entry permit but i didn't have to prepare anything in advance.

if you travel business class, you aren't able to use the premium lane as you can't get a re entry permit in that area.  i may be proved wrong as it has been awhile since i've done it.  and who knows, maybe if they've moved the desk to another hall they have also set up a fast track immigration counter there also.

and remember your permission to stay date is still the same (60 days from your arrival + any extension).  the first time i got a re entry permit i thought the 10 days i stayed in vietnam would not count and i would still have access to 90 days in thailand (60 plus 30 extension).

Correct. There is not exit permit only a re-entry permit.

You have to get the re-entry permit when you leave.  And then use it to re-enter when you return.

Going to the UK tomorrow for 12 days. I come back to Thailand on the 31st. I have a tourist visa which expires on 4th February. Any suggestions for the best visa options as I intend to stay in Thailand indefinately

get a NEW FREE tourist visa while ur gone (makes ZERO sense to pay 1,000 baht for a re entry permit that will only be valid 4 days)

OR if ur over 50 apply for a non O visa in the UK and extend it when ur back in thailand
