ouagadougou
Are government school teachers still required to wear black/white clothes for the one year period? I suppose it may vary depending on what region of Thailand but not sure. Any consensus on what to expect?
Scott
I think there is a difference from school to school, although gov't schools may have a more consistent policy. I know several schools that announced they would go back to the regular school dress code. Teachers were asked to wear a black ribbon, though. If I recall, bright colors are still discouraged. Slip
We are not government, but we are now on standard uniform with black ribbon twice a week, black twice a week, and white with black ribbon on the other day.
ozmeldo
Yes. But knowing foreigners working in most publics, unless they can wear a rugby shirt, they won't bother. We are private. White shirt, black tie/ribbon. Black rugby shirt Friday's.
stubuzz
Civil servants are required to wear black/white for 1 year. Foreign contract workers were asked to comply with the dress code for 1 month, which is now over.
BruceMangosteen
Foreigners, the teachers in Government schools, are expected to follow the schools mandate which remains black or a white shirt wearing the black ribbon to show respect. Both with black slacks or at the least I assume, dark colored slacks. I would not recommend asking for relief or breaking the policy. Do as you are asked, don't drive it to the point of being told. Don't like it? Leave. Too overweight to find clothing, have it made in the big city. Can't afford it, work nights and weekends.
onlycw
My institution just signed some deal with the Army. I expect having to wear black all year long. The Thai teachers certainly do. About 75% wear o n l y black, the rest may sport a white shirt. With a black ribbon.
