Anyone at a loose end around Ubon tomorrow night Thursday 22nd December is very welcome to join us on our annual Christmas bar crawl (walk - no running, probably some taxis as well!).

As Thailand's youngest Hash we finally reach our 100th hash in February - normal hash + celebratory party + free commemorative shirt.

Details of these and other upcoming events are given on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ubonhash and are summarised here as:

  1. Christmas Bar Crawl - this Thursday 22nd December meet up at Wrong Way at 6:30pm
  2. January Outstation Run at Suan Loong Daeng farmstay on Saturday 21st January
  3. Ubon Hash Celebratory 100th Run and Party Saturday 18th February (Meuang Ubon/environs location tba)
  4. Thailand Nash Hash in Pattaya on June

Christmas bar crawl - will assemble at 6:00pm on Thursday 22nd December at Wrong Way Bar/Cafe on Phadaeng Road (between its intersection with Sapphasit Rd and Pitchitrangsan Rd) with the intention to set off about 6:30 pm. There will probably be a short marked trail over part of the crawl but casual shoes should be ok. Please wear a hash shirt and a santa hat - up to you what else you wear! Ubon hash shirts are available to buy at value prices of 160 to 220 baht depending on size and if expense is an issue, you can hire a hash shirt for 50 baht for the night - choice of many colours from the GM's personal collection!

'Wearing of a santa hat is strongly encouraged - the run' fee is only 50 baht which will include a free basic Santa hat for the first 15 to turn up. Please bring you own if you want bells and fine fur! The picture is taken from last years Christmas bar crawl by the way.

We will visit a variety of bars, bar restaurants and no doubt the odd karaoke to exercise the lungs of singing members. Leave the hash whenever you like (and join it whenever you like if you want to phone the GM on 0844664351 to find out where we are!). Food and drink is at your expense with maybe ad hoc kittys being organised.

Please feel free to join us even if you have not hashed before. We are an affable bunch and there is no need for athletics on this (or any of our 'runs').

The January 2017 run will be an outstation run at Suan Loong Daeng, the farmstay resort run by Nok and Trond (our RA, 'Viking Ghettomaster') on Saturday 21st January. General idea is to have the run at the normal time of 3pm ish, followed by evening drinks and food plus pool (swimming and 8-ball table varieties). If the weather has warmed up enough by then you might want to bring a swimming costume for pre-, or post- run dips. Suan Loong Daeng is in the deep south of Ubon province under the lee of the Cambodian border hills near Nam Yuen and is a really relaxing place and the SLD outstation run is a great event. Most of us will want to book an overnight room. We hope to see former Ubon hashers Noi Saunders ('Gold Digga'), hubby yet-to-be named Mike and Jay returning for this event from Australia. Further details to come in January.

Ubon Hash 100th run will take place in Ubon on Saturday 18th February. Still working up the details but there will be a run plus free food party and a free commemorative shirt for those attendees who have hashed with us more than once before. Normal hash run fee will apply. I'll be starting to make a list of size requirements for the shirt at the Christmas Bar Crawl Hash and the free shirt only works if you have told the GM (me) you are coming. All returnees will be very warmly welcomed as well as regular current hashers and anyone else who cares to party.

Thai Nash Hash takes place on Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th June in Pattaya and GM 'Flash Git' and RA 'Viking Ghettomaster' will be going and there will be some space in our transport. National hashes, which bring together hashers from all over Thailand and internationally are great fun with a long weekend party atmosphere and lots of beers and laughs Very much recommended, so why not come along - there is a need to get a registration signed up in the next month or so to ensure you meet the cut. Further details contact me, but we will discuss it at the next two hash events at the least.

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few experienced hashers and wanabee enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running (sometimes!). The rest walk.

A trail is laid, typically in white chalk powder or chalked arrows and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. Trails are typically 5km +/- 1km. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part!
