webfact
Regulator Shuts Down Booze Buffet; Threatens To Prosecute People Sharing Alcohol Pics By Teeranai Charuvastra, Staff Reporter - Security officers raid a bar Tuesday in Chiang Rai city for offering a 190 baht all-you-can-drink happy hour special. BANGKOK — Thailand’s top anti-alcohol crusader is back, and he wants the internet to know even unintentionally promoting alcohol can lead to prosecution. Following a yearlong media hiatus, Alcohol Control Board director Samarn Futrakul this week shut down a bar advertising all-you-can-drink packages on social media and warned Thursday that any netizen who encourages people to drink could face the same charges, no matter their intentions. NongKhaiKid
Doesn't he know that the staple of the social media is photos of food, coffee, beer in bottles, beer in glasses etc. ? Is this on his hit list too as photos of friends enjoying a beer much constitute encouragement, well in his sad little world anyway.

yellowboat
So wearing a BeerLao t-shirt in public is illegal ? Not a fan of Thai beer monopoly. Without the junta, we would have never have known wet blankets like director Samarn existed in Thailand. He is a sadly, comical man.

When I moved to Texas in 1978, it was legal to drink a beer while driving down the road (still illegal to have blood alcohol over the limit). Today, it's not. That seems to have worked. Moonmoon
I got a friend who is an offspring of a prominent family who owns a leading beer brand in Thailand. I always see him posting pics of himself drinking n promoting his family beer on facebook with no problems. Obviously the competitors in chiang rai didnt like what this bar was doing.. its about who u know...
Guderian
Yes, he's been quite for a while now. I'd expect the next one to surface will be the guy who used to start shouting every six months or so about how (dirty) foreigners own one-third of Thailand, and 140% (at least!) of Phuket. natway09
This "all you can drink" in 3 hours is a bit silly as some will make a fool of themselves. We are governed by the lowest common denominator. There is no reference made that even implies that you cannot have an alcoholic drink in a licenced premises. What they should do is stop the after hours cart bars that operate into the late early hours with no licenses (except the monthly brown paper bag ) no ablutions, nor dress code no rules nor security. Have a look at around 5 am down Sukhumvit around Soi 15 , it is a pig farm

anon467367354
No more Regency commercials on the TV? "even unintentionally promoting alcohol can lead to prosecution." No more selfies at restaurants where there is alcohol on the table? Could it be argued that seeing people eat on the TV makes the viewer feel like eating too, hence, a restaurant pic with a beer could make someone want to drink. The whole thing is ludicrous. tukkytuktuk
If they legalized weed the all you can eat special offers would disappear over night. All you can drink could be dangerous as I know a few alcoholics who would be at risk of drowning.
