BANGKOK: -- Cash flow during the New Year holidays will exceed 129 billion baht, a 3.4% increase over the same period last year.

According to the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce’s rector Ms Saowanee Thairungroj.

The estimated rise is attributed to the government’s ‘Shop for the Country’ and ‘Travel for the Country’ campaigns.

She said a recent survey carried out to gauge consumer spending habits for the coming 2017 New Year holidays revealed that planned consumer spending amounts to 129.293 billion baht which is a 3.4% increase over figures for the previous year.

On average individual expenditure for domestic tourism was found to be 12,800 baht/person while those intending to travel abroad will be spending on average 65,000 baht/person.

Boy they got it figured out almost to the satang. For God and country spend spend spend. If you have 5 IPhones buy a sixth. Your friendly bank manager stands at the ready.

Not only does the Government not know how much people intend to spend over New year, but I can guarantee that none of the people supposedly interviewed will know either. I am fairly careful with my spending, but I have no idea how much I will spend tomorrow and certainly not throughout next week. So, according to the Government, people will spend 3.4% more than last year.......absolute conjecture, based on absolutely nothing.

I am not even sure that they can possibly have a reliable spending figure for last year's New Year, as much of the money spent goes into small private firms and individuals whose earning are not reported for VAT or Income Tax, either legally or illegally, depending on their size.

Wow they have a crystal ball .

Now I know how much I going to spend ... it's a very round number o O 0 THB.
