BANGKOK: -- An online story is causing much consternation among the Thai public after a trader and father of three was shot in the mouth after he went to meet an organizer of a trade fair.

"Chai" 36, is recovering in hospital. The bullet, believed by police to be from a shotgun, entered his mouth and exited his cheek. He has been in hospital since the incident on Monday in the Klong San area of Bangkok, reports Daily News.

A Facebook post by a friend of the victim went viral after a picture of the man was posted as he lay wounded in hospital. The post said: "Please share. Whoever has a lead please tell Somdej Chao Phraya police. This happened at the Phra Jao Taksin fair. Shot in the mouth and the bullet came out the cheek. Police have arrested no one. I am just a trader who sells stuff for a living".

Daily News online reporters caught up with the poster, a friend of the victim named only as "Tom", who said that the family of the victim were living in fear and afraid to go out. They are scared that an "influential" person is involved in the shooting, the case is making no progress and important evidence has been "lost".

The victim has three daughters aged 10, 12 and 14 and the friend said that the family had never caused anyone any trouble and were in real difficulty.

On Monday the victim had received a phone call to get him to meet the organizer of the fair at its site on the Lat Ya road. He wanted to talk to "Chai" about his having collected rents from traders at the fair last year. He added that he may not hire him to collect the rents again this year.

After going to the site of the fair and hunting around unsuccessfully for the organizer "Chai" decided to return to his car about 11pm and was confronted by a man who pulled out a gun and shot him in the face.

Doctors managed to save his life and the family have reported the matter to police.

A bullet from a shotgun. Only thing similar would be 'plug' shot. Used in USA to stop a car by causing real damage to the engine.

Plug or Slug shot

How can evidence be lost ,will someone loose their job for this ? No ,this is thailand. Was someone paid to loose evidence?  This is thailand

Not only Thailand, a similar episode happened in England a few years back, tony blair's "Expense Receipts" were all accidentely  shredded, all ten years worth, every single one!

Nothing mentioned by the government, no one bought to account as to how this tragedy happened, all tucked and hushed up!

Not wishing to be pedantic, but I have now read more than 15 posts on Thai Visa Forum over the past few weeks which have mis-used the words "loose" and "lose" by substituting one incorrrectly for the other. I recognize that many posters on here are not native English speakers (the Americans, for example :sorry:), so in their case the error is perfectly understandable. Loose means "not held together", or "untied", whereas lose means "to be deprived of something" or "cease to have", as when you have lost your wallet, for example.

Sorry about that guys, but more than 15 times was more than enough.

Meanwhile, if anyone can find any spelling or grammatical errors in my post, I can assure you that they are included intentionally as a test.

I think a slug shot would have taken his head off.

More likely a cartridge loaded with those large ball bearings, hit by one of them, would be similar to a 22 bullet.

Maybe the things he sells were not his to sell  :whistling:

Some people get a little testy when someone flogs their gear

Let's just blame the victim without any evidence whatsoever.

How much of the deer gets left after being hit by one of those?

I don't know how big the bullet part is but from the dead deer I have seen..just hole where the impact was. One hunter ì knew was accidentally shot in the leg and it hit the major artery. Hé died from blood loss.

Maybe it had something to do with this rent money situation from the last fair ???????  (On Monday the victim had received a phone call to get him to meet the organizer of the fair at its site on the Lat Ya road. He wanted to talk to "Chai" about his having collected rents from traders at the fair last year. He added that he may not hire him to collect the rents again this year).
