Police warn of celebratory gunfire

BANGKOK: -- As New Year is coming in the next two days, the Royal Thai Police today warned people not to fire gunshots into the air as they could face murder charge for unintentional killing in case the falling bullets caused death.

The warning came as the police have records of six cases of mysterious bullets falling down from the air onto house roofs in a single day on January 1, 2016 in Nonthaburi, Phatthalung, Loei, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Pattani provinces.

The falling bullets caused damages to roof tiles.

In the prevention of unintentional damages to properties or unintentional injuries or deaths, the police asked the people not to shoot into the air as they risk being charged with murder resulted from recklessness in case the falling bullets caused damages, injuries or deaths.

Thus...like last year, they start with their own off-duty white t-shirt wearing and celebrating with liquid spirits finest?

Based on the police request not to fire shots up into the air I expect celebrators will just fire their shots horizontally.

They warn because the sit in simple tents along the roads where they play candycrush on a computer all day/night.

So it really is cowboy land, yeha...giddy up Hoss!!

Base on the price of ammo in Thailand, just buying firecrackers would be a less expensive choice (and relatively safer too).

"Celebratory gunfire"?

...oh, well...why not....:coffee1:

"Sorry kids, you'll have to wait for children's day on January 14th, then you can shoot guns into the air."

There was a lot of celebratory gunfire during my wedding parade; one of them was a cop.

It was ghosts...

"A gun expert Wuthaya Suksomtomorn said the police could find evidence to prosecute the shooter through forensic  examination."

Could have, should have, would have...if only it didn't involve effort without profit.

I saw the OP title and thought what, has TVF  added Afghanistan Daily to their sources?

You can't fire a gun into the air, let off fireworks or fire lanterns. Usher in the new year with a can of chang and a flick of a burning cigarette butt into the moonlit sky. Romance is not dead in my street.

Happy New Year!

Thailand has nothing on Mexico for this.

'Bluespunk': And that 'gun expert' omitted a few tiny details: ...providing the police would have the gun, identified its owner, and the person using it! Considering a vast number (most?) firearms in Thailand are illegally detained (un-licensed), quite some sold by BiBs, the proverbial needle in a haystack a much more easy task (with a strong magnet)...

As I said...effort required.

The falling bullets damage the roof tiles...HOLY CRAP...I had no idea...!  BTW...The lanterns and fireworks are all over the sky...Mr. Grisada...! Here in Chiang Rai...! You know, all that stuff that was banned....? That went well...5555555

They have most of the guns here do they not. Death by misadventure for sure.
