Hi everybody,

i'm trying to find information about an hotel in Songkhla.

I found it only on Agoda but i already put in maybe 50 dates and Always get the message no rooms available on the dates you chosen. Actually i found the hotel on more websites but they Always redirect me for bookings to Agoda.

But these (dodgy) websites show me rates starting from $370 :o.

Can't even find the hotel's website or phonenumber itself. If i use the website link on google it redirects me to a karaokebar in the hotelcomplex ( http://www.songkhlamermaidclub.com/home.html )

I come up with 2 names: Rajamangala Songkhla mermaid hotel and/or Songkhla mermaid hotel.

If anyone can give me a (booking)website or maybe details about a name change, a review of own experience, ... i would be very happy.

Kind regards,

Foexie

Prices look about right.

I assume you mean Meuang Songkhla (not Had Yai). Unless things have changed recently there aren't any 4 (forget 5) star hotels. There are 4-5 big hotels that rely mainly on conferences etc. and are all slightly skanky. But generally they are priced accordingly.

The only place on the above link, that I know, and would call charming is the Ao Thai Resort on the seafront which is owned by a friendly German guy. However it is probably 20-30 mins drive from downtown Songkhla.

Beware that in the south the term "resort" is used colloquially to refer to short-time hotels which are often little more than concrete shells in the middle of nowhere.

Rajamangala Pavilion Beach hotel is an older property right next door to the newer (but only marginally nicer) Songkhla Mermaid Hotel.  Both are located directly across the street from the beach, but not too convenient to decent dining.

I'd suggest the BP Samila for the best location, though it's a fine old hotel that's seen better days.  It's a short walk from the Samila Beach seafood restaurant alley with a half dozen popular seafood places.  It's the only hotel located right on a beach in town.  North of town (a short ferry ride away), the Haad Keaw Resort is right on the beach and a great property.  But it's in the middle of nowhere relative to any other amenities, and it's Muslim focused (which works out fine for me), so not much "action".

For expat friendly accommodations, try the Singora, which is right at expat corner with half a dozen restaurant/bars within 100 meters.  It's not right at the beach, but a 5 minute scooter taxi ride gets you there.  Stop in at Buzz Stop for great food and all the local scuttlebutt.

Green World is a decent hotel, but a little inconveniently located for other amenities and the beaches.  I'm also a fan of Sun City for the great street food all around it, plus a nice walk thru the street food to the beach.

None of the Songkhla Hotels is anything to write home about, but the ones listed above offer a decent place to camp out after a day of the beach.

Stay away from the local guest houses and the Pavilion in town.

You want to book for more than a few hours?  From website it appears to offer short term accommodations.

@ lopburi3: That s because it is not the website from the real hotel i guess. It's google what showed me that link connected with the hotel. Downstairs i put the link from Agoda. It's a decent hotel.

@ thedemon: that is not the same hotel i was looking for. Here is the link:

https://www.agoda.com/nl-be/rajamangala-songkhla-mermaid-hotel/hotel/songkhla-th.html?cid=1656253

And yes i wanna stay in meuang. My gf is originaly from Songkhla but already live over 10y in bkk because of her work. We wanna go to her home for Song khran festival. But this hotel openen in 2012 so she don't know anything about it.

I already did try 2 hotels there. The first one was a disappointment. The second one (Flora may) was ok but the manager was very unfriendly so my gf don't wanna go back there.

@ impulse: Yes i know where they are. I have seen them last year when going to the beach. That is why i wanna try the newer one because the pavilion looks more outdated.

Another option might be to stay in Hat Yai where there is a large selection of good hotels (used for weekend shopping trips from Malaysia) and shopping with easy share taxi access to Songkhla.

Agoda does not list that hotel on any of there English language sites that I could find and no other sites that list and fact you can not book on site you link suggests to me it may not be open for general hotel business.

@  lopburi 3 :It's alway possible yes. Although it is a new hotel. I found some websites showing pics of a wedding on dec 28 so maybe they are finishing their business from jan 1. I know Hat Yai have plenty hotels but not wanna take the drive again up and down 2 times every day. I try to convince my gf to get over the issue with the manager from the Flora May. It is just a few km from her parents house.

This PDF has contact details for the Songkhla Mermaid.

Call or email them directly.

@ thedemon: thank you so much for this. I will email them asap. Wow you must be a bigger internet wizzard then me to find that page :d.

Thanks all for the help.

Wish you all the best for the new year.

You might be better having wife call them as even active business here often fail to respond to emails (especially if not in Thai).  As it is Hotmail and they have no website expect it may not be a priority concern.

Perhaps check if manager in other hotel might have been replaced so wife would give it another try if above does not work.

If you get a chance, try out the Club Tree Hotel.  It's brand new, at the same location as Sun City, and the rate seems pretty reasonable.

The best part of that location is the street food market that starts on that road around 17:00, and the all day street food where you can get a great breakfast before anyone else is even awake (handy if you have to catch a "dark and stupid :30" crew boat)

If you do try it, post back with your impressions.  It's so new it wasn't open last time I stayed at Sun City a few months ago.
