BANGKOK, 30 December 2016 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Army has ordered an increase of security officers around Sanam Luang as large crowds of people will be arriving to pay respects to the late King and join in various activities on New Year’s Eve.

Army Chief Gen Chalermchai Sittisart paid a visit to Sanam Luang and other areas outside the Grand Palace in order to observe the operations of the Peace and Order Maintaining Command in facilitating mourners coming to pay final respects to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. While there, he was briefed on the progress made so far as well as preparations for the New Year’s holiday.

Gen Chalermchai made known that, on December 31, the Peace and Order Maintaining Command is ready to station more security personnel throughout Sanam Luang, at boat piers and along surrounding roads. The screening of people at all checkpoints will be conducted with more stringency while medical officials will be on standby to assist anyone who might be in need.
