BANGKOK:-- Thais and foreigners use air service in travels during the New Year’s festive season in record number with over 207,000 air travelers using Don Meuang airport in just two days on December 29-30.

Don Meuang airport director Mr Petch Chancharoen disclosed on Friday that about 103,000 passengers used Don Meuang airport on December 29 to travel to destinations within the country and abroad in 700 flights.

On December 30, there were 700 incoming and outgoing flights through Don Meuang carrying more than 104,000 passengers, he said, adding that he expected about 106,000 passengers on New Year’s Day alone.

So, 700 flights in a 24 hour period is what, 30 per hour? each carrying about 150 passengers (can't find my calculator). Seems like a fair amount of people. Now, where does this add into the TAT figures for tourism?

Well 700 flights with an average of 150 per flight is 105,000 which certainly tallied in with the figures quoted in the Op.

This of course includes Thais travelling within Thailand but I have a sneaking suspicion that the TAT figures are not all that far out - especially compared to the TVF eggspurts who will tell us that the hotels they visited were almost empty.

many larger aircraft use DMK too nowadays, not only single-aisle planes. The likes of AirAsiaX, NokScoot...

As they say in the oil business I think we have reached peak spending. People are getting tapped out. Well 2017 has started and no doubt TAT will continue feeding us cake and ice cream numbers.

Most of this is domestic travel as Thais have figured out they can travel as cheaply or nearly as cheaply as vip bus or minivan.  Tourist numbers are down here big time.  Pattaya is freakishly empty in most areas with the exception of walking street which always has traffic and parts of soi buokaw.  i suspect many are not traveling and those that do are opting for Vietnam or Cambodia.  The Saudis have squandered their oil money but no one has squandered the tourist industry quite like the Thais have done.  2017 may break the camel's back.

Peak tourism. As we do not have camels here lets say elephants back. As in any diverse society diverse numbers are flying around. Just get a butterfly net and catch a number floating by in the breeze. Now your a tourism expert.
