Interior Ministry instructed provinces to strictly enforce the Drink Don’t Drive campaign

BANGKOK, 2 January 2017 (NNT) – The Ministry of the Interior has instructed provinces to strictly maintain road safety under the Drink Don’t Drive campaign. Violators will be severely prosecuted, in an attempt to reduce the losses from road accidents.

Interior Ministry Deputy Permanent Secretary Chayaphol Thitisak disclosed that the Interior Ministry has instructed officials at all levels including provinces, local administrative organizations, sub-district headmen and village headmen to set up checkpoints to monitor for reckless behavior and measure drivers’ alcohol level.

Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department Director General Chatchai Phromlert has said that the Administration Center for Preventing and Reducing Road Accidents 2017 has been established to strictly enforce traffic rules, implement social measures and suppress behaviors of local road users that are deemed risky under the Drink Don’t Drive campaign.

Surely, the RTP won't be taking this affront to their authority lying down ???

Interior ministry says enforce drink driving laws. Transport ministry is inspecting a checkpoint & is satisfied. Education ministry announces worse fatalities than last year. Who is running the circus?

and lets keep it going on a permanent basis instead of calling an end to it after the holidays - that's like saying "after the holidays it is ok to get drunk and drive a vehicle" it clearly is not ok at any time along with - speeding and using mobile phones

Well, one way would be to apply the same taxation of local booze to imported booze. As alcohol-free beer still contains tiny fractions of alcohol (in the 0.000x %) the Ministry of Finance (under which customs is nested) still charges the full beer import duty while the local firewaters, be it in beer, spirits or wine containers, are privileged financially.
Drunk driving will stop if you impound the vehicle (say THB 20'000/car and THB 5'000/bike) and keep it, against stiff handling and parking fees, for say, a month under lock.
Pattaya has seen an increase in road checks which are dealt with the usual "envelope" treatment of THB 20'000 in case of alien culprits.

The biggest enemy of Thailand is the Thai people - regretfully!

Can't do that, if everyone goes to court how will they make up all the lost tea money?

Where do you think the term "spot checks" came from. That term applies to all things here in the LOS. Its called spotlight policing. Stay out of the spotlight.
