I Miss Thailand, But..

I didn't holiday in Thailand this year.  It is the first year I have skipped since my first trip back in 2004.  It was kind of relaxing to just hang around and not do much over the Holidays.  Right now it is cold and rainy outside and I am just about to dive into a freshly cooked bowl of my home made beef stew, while sitting in my reclining chair watching the Packers Lions Football game.  I went to the Baron casino for one night made some money on the slot machine, enjoyed their buffet complete with crab legs.  I locked up a direct job offer for the next three years that gets me to my minimum Social security age, and that along with my investment dividends and interest will set me up for a fine somewhat early retirement.

I miss Christmas in Thailand thinking of the snow back home, eating an xmas buffet at the semi outdoor Lek Hotel, spending a week at Karon beach, or at Ao Nang.  Pattaya nightlife was always fun.  So do miss the foot massages and oil massages, and easy in easy out choice of foods, thai and german (miss the domocil wiener schnitzel and fried potatoes and salat)

Hang in there Thailand.  I will make my 14th trip later this year, sooner if I get laid off!

I watched the game live from my computer.... relaxing in the village for a few days. Will go out and get my foot massage tomorrow... and crabs legs are more work than meat - - not my style but my wife has been making all sorts of foods for the family this weekend... will watch a movie then go for another walk... a lazy stroll this time.

Your bored shitless, that's why you spend every minute thinking of Thailand.

Well guess what, no one even noticed you missing.

Better get your ass back over here cause the staff at the hotel need your money, then they will remember you.

I live near Detroit and that game was a heart breaker but we're still in the playoffs. As for Thailand, I'm returning in 2 weeks for the 4th time in a year. Looking forward to the change in temperature. I'll be there for 2 weeks. Happy New Year everyone!

The OP has his wet dreams, and it's enough.  But those of us here and in the game, we can't relate...but we remember.

Never heard of crabs legs. Are those little sticks with white meats sold in supermarket in the fridge? I have heard of fish fingers and ate them too in London but crab legs?

They can't be true crab meat because it would cost a fortune to make them, because crabs are expensive. I have seen CrabSticks on the wrappings and it is supposed to be crab meat in it. There is no crab meat in it ok?

Rocky Mountain Oysters don't have any "oyster" in them either.

i must say i was a bit surprised by all the negativity, sarcasm and literally personal attacks after my post.  You seemed to have missed the point and went on tangents and made some pretty rude and crude assumptions.  But so be it.   To even hint that some of you are in the game and others are not is ridiculous. You don't know other people's situations.   As an engineer I happen to enjoy  my work and being engaged in my profession.  I work with some very talented people on some very big projects, Global Hawk, X-47B and I get paid quite well for doing so in sunny southern california.  I choose to not hang things up just yet and hang out and watch thousands of expats burn themselves out in Pattaya.  I take my months off when I choose, I only work 4 days a week and get plenty of leisure time as needed.  I have a very comfortable lodging arrangement and don't have any material needs.  I am very thankful for that as I have been in many countries and have seen people living in tar paper shacks.  So  keep your negativity in check.

Oh and for many of the negative posters, I am sorry that your life is so small that you focus on my typo of Crabs legs, when I meant crab legs.  And I don't mean the little scrawny ones you get in Thailand. I mean Alaskan sized crab legs.

Definitely can relate somewhat to your story of missing Thailand from here in the USA. In our situation, we miss Thailand, however making money is nice, too. Thai wife makes good money and is happy to keep working raking it in, so any thought of moving to Thailand is delayed. And with her being a decade younger than I, she could keep working. That is, she make keep working. I work, but long-term is not likely.

Sounds like you definitely have a good plan.
