Deputy Transport Minister inspects transport safety center

SAMUT SAKHON, 2 January 2017 (NNT) – The Deputy Minister for Transport has paid an inspection visit on the transport safety center of Samut Sakhon province, encouraging agents to keep up their efforts and reviewing use of the HighwayTraffic application.

Deputy Minister for Transport Pichit Akkrathit has led a contingent of officials to visit the Samut Sakhon province transport safety center set up on Rama 2 road. He was received by the province’s transport officials as well as representatives from the local Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and police.

The multi-agency center operates 24 hours a day and focuses on inspecting the driving speeds of public transport vehicles such as buses and vans as well as goods transport vehicles. Highway agents use the HighwayTraffic application to review and address issues with roadways in the center’s jurisdiction and have noted it has helped them keep traffic moving at a brisk pace.

Pichit took the opportunity to hand out gift baskets and drinks to officers manning the center to encourage them in their work, which he said was essential to maintaining traveler safety during the New Year’s holiday.

Shame they can't apply some resources to patrolling the highways and catching offenders, rather than having fancy transport safety centres which don't seem to be doing anything of the sort. Who has seen one overloaded truck or speeding minivan or bus stopped, not just over New Year, but ever?

Just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, useless.

instead of doing nothing but sit around in the nice air conditioned "transport safety center" and look at photos posted on Facebook and Twitter of today's horrible mini van accident killing 23 people.

Of course this would be the only way they would know anything has happened.
