Narcotics Suppression Center to destroy 600 rai of poppy field

Narcotics Suppression Center Region 3 of the 3rd Army is to destroy 600 Rai of poppy field.

At 10.00 hours today, Maj. Gen. Sumleung Siwarong (สำเริง ศิวาดำรงค์), deputy commanding general of 3rd Army called for a meeting with policemen, authorities, and officials of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.

Sources stated that as much as 630 rai of land were known for poppy plantation in the northern part of the country.

As a result, Maj. Gen. Sumleung said that the meeting was held with various authorities to find way to quickly destroy all 630 Rai of poppies grown. Currently 17 Rai of poppy fields have been burnt.

So it's true that this still grow in Thailand? Deep in the mountain and far from the roads?

Yet another goverment going through the motions of trying to pretend that they are taking action on a so-called social "sin" and that they will win in the end.

Of course those of us capable of independant thought will logically conclude that just like all those other unmentionable "sins" of the modern world (drug taking, underage drinking, underage sex, pornography both legal and illegal, alcahol consumption , corruption, the list goes on ) , the government will never win, those breaking these laws will go on and on and be replaced constantly with others who will be replaced with others who will........

A cheaper option will be to sit back and let people lead the lives they chose to , but to do that would mean all the governments loosing face around the world , so as that can never happen , these farcical attempts to "clean up" the world will go on as will those who continue to break the laws in order to lead their chosen lifestyle.
