BANGKOK: -- THE Ombudsman’s Office is looking into the ethics complaint against Metropolitan Police chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn for accepting Bt50,000 monthly stipends from a leading liquor firm.

The legal inquiry is expected to be completed soon and a report sent to the Ombudsman for a ruling early this year, Raksagecha Chaechai, secretary-general of the Ombudsman’s Office, said.

The Association to Protect the Thai Constitution last year called on the Ombudsman to examine Sanit for allegedly violating the code of ethics by receiving a monthly allowance as an adviser to Thai Beverage, one of the country’s biggest producers of alcoholic drinks.

The Ombudsman is a General..... I doubt he will create a precedent about indicting officers getting an extra earning from companies in situation of conflict of interest.... :)

The secretary-general of the Ombudsman’s Office said "...the office intends to complete the probes before the new charter goes into force so that the cases would not be dismissed..." !!!

And why would such a Company feel they need the paid monthly advice of a  Police Chief?  This one really stinks.

You haven't been in Thailand long enough haven't you?

we would be very happy if the indiscretions end in only 50k,

but it's only the tip of the iceberg....

So true.  It's not the 50K monthly- that's normal and accepted as a way to keep the wheels turning (and the taxes for salaries low).  It's the occasional multi million baht bonuses and gifts that should raise red flags.

Ethics , a word loosely used in terminology,  to describe a person who has no character or ethics, but should have them, generally reserved for high ranking officials , politicians and person of high standing in the community, not to be confused with the word Thailand......................................................:cheesy:

...but nobody is asking what that monthly advice is. I would like to hear it, but then would I have to pay 50,000 baht?

Sanit's advice for January to Thai Bev: tell your staff to wear  helmets when riding a bike.

If I may be so bold as to suggest, this is not the tip of the iceberg. This is just a whiff of the tip of the iceberg :-)

If you were to eliminate all the generals in high places it would be like the US movie "A Day Without A Mexican" Their everywhere their everywhere.
