Network Error.JPG

Does anyone else get this message and what does it mean barring the obvious.

I am with AIS fibre and occasionally get this message, I have tried to report this problem to them but alas no joy.

Don't expect AIS to solve the problem.

"Network" in this message refers to your network connected to the fiber optic router (your "home" network).

Can you give details what devices you use and how they are connected to the router (LAN cable?, wireless?).

Except from the message, are you indeed unable to connect to the internet (you did not mention that)?

I am able to connect to the internet.

My desktop and my sons laptop are connected by LAN., my wife's laptop and various tablets and phones by WiFi.

This message only appears on my desktop. It only appears occasionally and normally when the other laptops are turned off.

I have been having lots of problems with AIS Fibre in the last month and I have requested a new router, which they appear to not want to give me.

So I'm now wondering if this is also a router problem.

I have at present a fiberhome router which they supplied to me in September 2105.

Two questions:

1) Have "you" changed any of the settings in the AIS-provided router?

2)  Has a "fixed IP" been set on your or your son's computer?  For this to have occurred someone would have had to set a fixed IP in the computer/router settings.

3) Do you possibly have another router connected to the AIS-provided router which you are using?  If so, if it's set to Router mode vs Access Point mode you can have IP address conflicts.  Your OP sounds like you only have the AIS-provided router....I just want to make sure.

Some more info here:

P.S. I've been on AIS Fibre for 6 months...have the their Huawei HG8245G router and never experienced the problem you are having.  Really sounds like a settup problem with one of you computer.

I have looked at the link you gave me and it does usually appear after I have put my desktop to sleep.

I have done nothing to my router set up and I don't think my son has a static IP address.

When I bought my son's laptop I just plugged in to a spare port and away he went. This doesn't appear to be the big problem I thought it may be.

Thank  you to KhunBENQ and Pib.

Other problems I have had with AIS fibre lately include KODI stopping at 8p.m. every evening, after 19 days of being told it was because  the internet was too busy as it was peak time. Eventually I managed to contact a supervisor, on the 29th December, who found a sync problem between AIS and the Kodi server which he fixed in 2 hours.

I also upgraded to 100Mbps/10 on the 1st of January (hoping it would solve my Kodi problems),and I am getting nowhere near the International Speedtests you are getting Pib.

In fact I believe they are worse than before the upgrade. I have been told that they cannot guarantee international bandwidth (same old rubbish) so I have quoted your speedtests compared to mine, and have requested to talk to the supervisor in the morning. P.S. Kodi still working well.

Sorry but I have appeared to have gone way off topic.

This could well be your problem. It's all to do with the DHCP leasing time.

The router assigns an IP to your desktop.......

You put your laptop in sleep mode.......

The lease time expires so the router assumes that it's available......

The router reassigns the IP to another device......

You wake your desktop up and it's still trying to use the same IP so there are two devices trying to use the same IP at the same time

You could try going into the DHCP settings and increasing the lease time.

Since ISPs issue out various routers, I don't know if yours is a Huawei HG8245G, but here's the DHCP settings in my AIS provided HG8245G.  I've never messed with the settings...as-is coming from AIS 6 months ago.   See snapshot below.

Now although it says a 1 day lease time that does not mean it's actually reassigns/changes the IP address for a device if the device is turned off/goes to sleep or even change the IP address if the device is up and running 24/7....it usually just means it "could" assign a new IP address when the lease period is up.   And it could very well give a new lease period of the same IP if no other device happens to get it when your other device was turned off/asleep.

When your computer goes to sleep, how long has it been asleep when you wake it?   Minutes, hours, overnight, or maybe even days?  Some people don't turn their computer off...leave them powered 24/7.   Depending on lease time "combined" with how long your computer is asleep could be a factor.

Maybe change your router's lease time if you are letting your computer go to sleep overnight, days, etc. Change lease time to a longer period like a couple of days, one week, etc.

You could also try giving the desktop a static IP (set on the PC itself) just outside the DHCP range available. In the example posted above maybe 192.168.98 or .... 152

I'm going to let this problem lie. Thanks for everybody's help and advice, but as it appears to be in house, and doesn't really affect anything, I'm going to to leave it at that.

I think you have to buy a replacement. I have been getting all kinds of funny things pop up especially when on the TV site. This site is unavailable is usually associated with TV. 502 404 error,  bad gateway problems about a half a dozen different messages at different times. Getting worse lately. Sorry to deviate a bit.

I had the same problem as the OP.

Usually after waking from sleep.

During sleep, and another device like a phone that "knows"our wifi arrives or a smart TV gets turned on.

The router assigns the first IP available and doesn't reserve the one previously given to the desktop.

Simply restarting the device with the error corrected it because it requests a new ip address and all id well (until next time).

I cured it by setting a static address for the desktop as described above.

A bit scary for a first time network guy!

Setting the computer to a static address is easy, there are many links to explain how to do it on Google.

The router settings depend on it's software interface.

Basically you have to find your mac address and enter it into the routers LAN settings along with the IP address you want the router to assign.

There are many links on how to find your computers mac address.

I have been dealing with static and dynamic (DHCP) IP addresses a bit recently whilst I covered my shop (3BB) and home (True Online) with IP and USB CCTV cameras. I also use Kodi a lot at both locations.

I would definitely recommend setting static IP addresses for your devices, and doing it through the device settings rather than through  the crappy routers both ISPs provide. Kodi also works better with static IP.

But after a lot of pain I can at last monitor both locations from the other or in fact anywhere over the internet, I am Big Brother!

Try this Elf,

Right-click on Local Area Connection if you are using wired internet connection or Right-click on Wireless Network Connection if you are using Wi-Fi.
Click on Properties in the drop-down menu. Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
Select Obtain an
IP address automatically.

If you leave your computer on all the time, as perhaps your Router, turn them off for a minute or so, and then re-start them.
This will refresh and help speed up your internet connection.

Doing this is particularly helpful for live streaming.

A program I use to help with the optimization/boosting of my Internet connection and to keep everything else in order is, Advanced System Care 10 Pro, from IOBIT and also

Drive Booster 4 Pro.
