Dr. Pornchai Sutheerakul, head of the hospital's Institute of Forensic Science, confirmed today that driver Sumon Eiamsombat did not drink or use narcotics before he lost control of the vehicle, Post Today reported. On Jan. 2, Sumon was driving a commuter van from Chantaburi to Bangkok. The van swerved out of its lane and collided head-on with a pickup truck on the opposite lane on a highway in Chonburi's Ban Bueng district. The vehicles then caught fire. wprime Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 That's a lot of damage for a 60km/h collision (I'm assuming that's on the 344 which is signposted at 60).

You need to double that speed and ad about 30 more. that's the usual cruising speed of the safety conscious caring mini van drivers of Thailand.
Thaiwrath Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 5 round trips in 31 hours, that is over 2,000 kilometres ! His boss must have known the dangers of driving such distance in a short period of time. In a normal country, the boss would be held accountable, and jailed for a good few years.

But you lose a lot of speed when swerving too, looks like he fell asleep with the pedal to the floor. I almost got taken out by one of them obviously falling asleep a few years back (he slipped out of his lane then all the way into the hard right before hitting the slope and suddenly correcting back) while I was passing him. It was on a curve too so I lost traction as I had to go into the hard right too to have braking room.

Head on with pickup going the other direction so 120 km/h collision if they were both only doing the speed limit.

Completly agree, i am no expert but in todays vehicles the crumple zones are very efficient and i suspect that 40mph (60kmh) would not cause such damage. the truck is obliterated and almost unrecognisable. More BS from the cowardly Thais unwilling to admit the reality on their own roads of terrible speeding and reckless driving.

Two vehicles traveling at 60km/h involved in a head-on collision will have approximately the same impact damage as a single vehicle driving into said solid object at 60km/h, not 120km/h with respect to relative mass, compressibility and traction.
6thST Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Booze or no Booze people here drive like manics. They do what they want too. They run red lights, they have tinted windows so when I'm riding my bike at a intersection I can't tell if the driver is looking at me or not? They make left turns or right turns and cut you off.The List can go on and on.One more thing the bicycle lanes are a joke there are more Lot Dangs and Taxi's in the bicycle lanes...And don't forget Texing....and the beat goes on!!!!

His boss must have known the dangers of driving such distance in a short period of time. In a normal country, the boss would be held accountable, and jailed for a good few years. if the above information is correct, that means an average speed of about 65 km. not accounting for eight times seating and disembarking passengers, packing luggage, "technical" stops, etc, what should take 8 times 15 minutes = 2 hours. (Not mentioning here the common sense "compulsory" breaks after X hours of driving and the maximum driving time per 24 hours) Gazzing up and food say another hour. 2000/28 = about 71 kmh on average. On the highway only, could maybe be possible when taking into account driving to and from a bus station. Up country, one has to really step on it to achieve such average. Where I am, before the introduction of speed limits and speed cameras, it was possible, but not now. Unless one has the desire to fork out 1000 B for a picture of your own car ;-) So, no time for sleep. May all victims rest in peace.
