Nigerian soldiers have found a schoolgirl who was one of more than 200 pupils kidnapped by the Islamist group Boko Haram.

Rakiya Abubkar is seen here being reunited with two other former captives.

The army says she was found wandering near a former militant stronghold with her six-month-old baby.

She was on the official list of nearly 300 missing girls kidnapped by the insurgents from a government boarding school in the remote northeastern town of Chibok in April 2014.

“We are all thrilled. We hope and pray that in the coming days and weeks our gallant troops will recover the other Chibok girls,” said Kashim Shettima, the Governor of Borno State.

Some have escaped or been rescued, but about 200 of the kidnapped schoolgirls are believed to be still in captivity.

Boko Haram has been pushed out of most of its territory in the region.

But an estimated 15,000 people have been killed and more than two million displaced during its insurgency aimed at creating an Islamist caliphate.
