Floods spread to Ranong as more rains are expected

Flood water has now spread to Ranong, bringing total southern provinces now stricken by floods to 10.

Although floods in many urban areas in towns have receded with business slowly returning, but in most suburban areas the situation remains critical.

Nakhon Si Thammarat airport remained closed today as flood water still submeges its runway.

The flood level at the runway rose higher today from yesterday, prompting airport authorities to watch the water closely before making announcement of any change on a  daily basis.

It could not say exactly when to open the airport again.

Trains from Bangkok to the South could travel only to Chumphon station as several sections of the rail lines are still submerged.

Most of the world,s problems seem to be caused by water, either not enough of it or too much, and then came the anagram of mails !

Wise words, phantomfiddler, wise words indeed. From drought to flood. The great drought in central Thailand last year and the loss of farming crops and lack of water for household use. Now the south is under water, again farm crops lost and lack of drinking water.

Will this continue? As long as global warming continues to affect our global weather then the answer is yes. What can be done to help prevent loss of life and prevent economic loss. In floods, better drainage? In drought, better storage? Not an expert but plans must be drawn and implemented in my opinion.
