Hiya All,

nice board changes...

Anyways I am married to a Thai and am wanting to know which visa is the best to get when returning from the U.K. Only going for a couple of months, so which one is the best in my situation? I was told somewhere along the line that it is better to get a spouse one as it could go well in the longterm towards residency? I am young anyways but with my job I may have to return or stay alot in the future.

thanks for any advice given.

If your sure your going to leave before 3 months, just get a Single entry tourist visa. that will be good for 60 days plus a further 30 day extension at immigration.

If you might want to stay longer, and your wife is a Thai national, you can apply for a 1 year non Immigrant O visa. This visa is good for 1 year and you get 90 days each time you enter Thaialnd. If you want to stay longer, you just make a trip to the nearest border and do a quick border crossing where you will recieve another 90 days. Repeat this process. If you do a border crossing on the day before you visa expires, you will get another 90 days making your visa really good for 15 months. This visa can lead to PR but you must extend the visa anually every year for 3 consecutive years at immigration, but you said you might need to go home every so often so then you will need to get re entry permits so when you leave, you dont loose you visa and extension.

Try for the visa in your country, it will be alot easier to get in your home country.

Married to a Thai you qualify for non immigrant O visa and should obtain and use for any entry over the 30 day visa free type. If doing the trips often a multi entry type valid for one year would be advised but if only once a year then a single entry would be fine. These do not effect application for permanent residence as that requires you to have stayed in Thailand for 3 consecutive years on an extension of stay from immigration but it does look better in your passport and provides a 90 day stay on each entry.
