My wife and I are on our way back to Thailand. This year is a little different for us. We both recently got citizenship in Canada and have our new Canadian passports. How does this affect my wife's entry into Thailand. Does she use her CDN passport and go through the foreign lanes or does she go to the Thai lanes at immigration? Also if she uses her CDN passport how does that affect her residency in Thailand? Do they stamp her in on a 30 day exemption in the CDN passport and what if she stays longer? She also has a current Thai passport and ID card.

Regards,

Tony

Use her Thai Passport to enter Thailand.

She is Thai. Why would she not do that?

If she enters with a Canadian Passport she will be treated as a foreigner.

Leave Canada on her Canadian passport show her Thai passport at check in for the flight to prove she does not need a visa for Thailand.

Enter and Leave here showing only her Thai passport (keep the Canadian one out of sight when going through immigration). Show both passports at check in for the flight back to Canada to again prove she does not need a visa.

Thanks for the replies. I guess moving forward she will need to keep both passports current. Renewing the Thai passport is a bit of a pain in the ass from Canada but I guess it'll have to be done. It usually involves a trip into Toronto when the passport people visit one a year during the Taste of Thailand Festival. Thanks again.

She could renew her Thai passport while visiting here. It takes less than a week to get it done. There are passport offices located in all areas of the country.

She used her Thai passport. Better than that was when the immigration staff told me to also go through the Thai passport side with her. "You can do that no problem when you're with your wife".

That was frickin awesome as the lineup on the falang side was HUGE. I mean HUGE as in backed up into the terminal.

I've never been so happy in Thailand.

Well, there was that one time ..... never mind .... some things are better not shared on Thai Visa. Haha.
