GENERAL Prayut Chan-o-cha has composed four songs since leading the military coup in May 2014 – all aimed at explaining his political actions and offering moral support to his compatriots in times of trouble.

Interestingly, all of the songs are sung by Sgt-Major Pongsathorn Phorchit, who works for the Royal Thai Army’s Band Department.

In an interview with the Nation News Agency, Pongsathorn said he did his best to convey the prime minister’s messages in his songs for the Thai public.

Utterly, life-threateningly sickening - and will make many of us need immediate hospitalisation and intensive care after such poisoning of our souls.

There is a famous word, 'quisling', or 'collaborator with the enemy'.

One day (a long, long way off) trials will be held for traitors ....

" But in his latest number, the premier also wrote: “For the land that I love, I will never give up. Both my hands will not let you go, :shock1: so don’t be afraid. I will stand up every time I fall down. I was born for you, my cherished land. I will pay you back until my last breath.”

so your last breath when you die of old age and leave office at the same time?

How many national leaders have, not only their own propaganda songs, but a personal singer for them?

This is quite a distinction.

Oh I don't know. the court jester was quite a figure in medieval times.....

"...Sergeant-major honoured to serve as PM Prayut’s songbird..."

Yes, but is it really offering moral support to his compatriots in times of trouble, in their "long march" along the dear-one's roadmap to Democracy !!!

Or, is this one songbird that really needs to be plucked ???

I found the lyrics of the first song. Let's try to get the others. This going to be good!

“Returning Happiness to the People”
[Khaosod English’s Unofficial Translation]

Lyrics by Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha
Melody by Wichian Tantipimolpan

The day the nation, the King, and the mass of people live without danger
We offer to guard and protect you with our hearts
This is our promise
Today the nation is facing menacing danger
The flames are rising
Let us be the ones who step in, before it is too late
To bring back love, how long will it take?
Please, will you wait? We will move beyond disputes
We will do what we promised. We are asking for a little more time.
And the beautiful land will return
We will do with sincerity
All we ask of you is to trust and have faith in us
The land will be good soon
Let us return happiness to you, the people
Today, we will be tired [because of our mission], we know
We offer to fight the danger
Lives of soldiers will not surrender
This is our promise
Today the nation is facing menacing danger.
The flames are rising
Let us be the ones who step in, before it is too late
The land will be good soon
Happiness will return to Thailand

Totally empty, vacuous, mendacious words.

Piffle.

I am a bit disappointed by this other song from December 2015. I miss the lyrical musings from the first song.

“Because You Are Thailand”

The life that I was born into, you are what I uphold
I love you and bond with you more than anything
Because you are Thailand
I will not let anyone destroy you

Life is not permanent, but the country must always live on
I want to see you recover and be bright again
As long as I still breathe, I will not be daunted by any obstacles

If there are only two hands and one soul
The power won’t be enough to make dreams come true
But if all of us join hands and souls
The day that we hope for won’t be too far for our Thailand

If there are only two hands and one soul
The power won’t be enough to make dreams come true
But if all of us join hands and souls
The day that we hope for won’t be too far for our Thailand
Stride toward a great hope
I will return happiness to all of you

'I love you - because you are Thailand'.

The last thing this creature emanates from his being is love. The very, very last thing.

And if his love is for the Thai people (presumably that means most of them), why does he not let them have what they, the majority, are clamouring for: freedom and democracy?

No. Because certain people are psychopathic, megalomaniacal, deluded and dangerous liars.

It seems people got bored of translating his songs as I did not find any translation for the two last ones. I only found a few verses from the last one here:

Thanks for the link. I recommend that people read Pravit's article there.
