WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Monica Crowley, the foreign policy adviser tapped for a White House job under President-elect Donald Trump, will relinquish the post, a transition official told Reuters on Monday.

Crowley had been chosen to serve as senior director of strategic communications at the National Security Council. Her appointment had been shadowed by reports of plagiarism in news outlets including CNN and Politico.

“After much reflection I have decided to remain in New York to pursue other opportunities and will not be taking a position in the incoming administration,” she said in a statement quoted by the Washington Times.

“I greatly appreciate being asked to be part of President-elect Trump’s team and I will continue to enthusiastically support him and his agenda for American renewal.”

A CNN review found this month that Crowley plagiarized thousands of words of her 2000 dissertation for her Columbia University Ph.D.

In addition, Politico reported that it found more than a dozen examples of plagiarism in Crowley's Ph.D. dissertation.

She had been hired to work for Trump's national security adviser, retired General Michael Flynn, who said in a statement quoted by The Times that he will miss the opportunity to have Crowley on his team.

The others seem to be better at that since they did not get caught, so she probably concluded she would not be good enough to match them.

Her plagiarism also reflects badly on whoever were the three members of her Ph.D committee at Columbia.   Their duty is to spot that kind of bs and to deal with it before she even comes to the oral defense.

Yes Donald another quality pick by you gone but it must be fake news as it was reported by CNN your whipping boy.

Most universities require thesis to be run through software which confirms the % of quotes etc taken from others. Her supervisors and committee should have seen the reports.

Was that also the case with this university 17 years ago?

Most universities were using a version of Turn-it-in or similar even back then. This copying is so egregious that it is quite possible that Colombia will rescind the PhD, even though that would reflect poorly on their decision to confer it in the first place.

Thanks, but that is not an answer to the question.

Rats and ships,anybody?

It took seventeen years for this plagiarism claim to raise its head? Seems something of a coincidence in the circumstances.

And a little difficult to relinquish a post one has yet to take up.

There were indications that she was going to be offered a high ranking job in the administration; it's only practical that people would take a look at her past statements and writings.

She cheated and got caught.

There was at least one previous instance, back in 1999, in which she was accused of plagiarism. As for it coming up now...duh? Vetting process.
