KORAT: -- Shots were fired as a drugged up man was chased after fleeing arrest in downtown Nakorn Ratchasima.

Much of the action was caught on video that has been viewed right across social media and national television.

A policeman can be seen taking aim as the Honda car driven by 21 year old Worachai Prawatporn careens around the crowded streets on Saturday, reported Thai News Agency.

He was arrested and charged with multiple offences.

The drama started outside the Ratchamongkhon University when Worachai pulled out a gun to threaten his girlfriend's former lover.

Alarmed members of the public called the cops and the chase began along Thao Sura road then into Ratchasima - Chok Chai road where the suspect did a U-turn.

A roadblock was set up and he crashed damaging a police pick-up. Many other cars belonging to the public had been damaged in the chase.

In Worachai's car police found a number 12 shotgun and eight Ya Ba tablets.

He was charged with illegally possessing a weapon, possession of drugs, taking drugs, fleeing arrest, causing damage while  driving and fleeing the scene of an accident. He has already been arraigned in court.

Hi -ho silver and away.

Better than any lone ranger movies.

I agree that the RTP often act like cowboys.  However, in this case, the police officer took correct action, as the suspect was armed, had threatened his girlfriend, and was endangering other motorists.  It doesn't appear that the officer put others at risk by discharging his firearm.

just shooting? Didn't look like he was trying to take out tires....

I think he might have been shooting at the car the suspect was driving.

Just a wild guess.

Scooter riding cops chasing a car!   Crazy!  Car chases in Thailand are handled differently to Australia, Britain or USA where the cops on real bikes would be told to backoff.

This is going to sound strange because it was only the other week that I knew the fake soldier, who was seeing my wife's niece, but this guy also comes from the same family. My wife told me about it a couple of days ago. He'll definitely be going to jail.

Strange seeing people you know in the news.

The story given there is a bit different from the version I heard though. End result the same though!

Oh, man, that's dangerous. Cops should never fire at fleeing suspects in an urban area. Those bullets come down somewhere, and there just might be an innocent bystander standing there.

Better to take out the driver, bigger target, and In spite of the close proximity, he missed, understandable, as he'd be shaking like a paint mixer, conscious of the possibility he'd be run down, and the need to leap for his life.

Brave guy, and a shame he missed.  Low lifes not required.

How has that happy chappy got on anyway?

He seemed fairly harmless compared to this member of your clan.

Hardly likely to shoot out the tires (that's the stuff that dreams are made of) better to show the driver that he (policeman) meant action!

Yes and a missed tire shot will come out the other side of the car too, maybe hitting a bystander.

You got to be in your late 60s to see lone ranger movies. What was the actor name again? He rode his horse into the sunset at end of the movie ?Something like that.

I thought he was aiming at the driver not the tires, he shoots to kill. That was a big gun he had.

I like Johnny Depp movies but when he played the lone ranger somehow it didn't quite fit in.

Bugger me! I was out and about at that time yesterday in sleepy hollow sorry Khorat. And to think I missed all that fun.

Life is is not fair. Kudos to Plod with the gun, bravery but a bit misguided imo. Loved the motorbike high speed chase indicating left and overtaking on the right. Classic keystone cop scene but overall well done chaps you got the perp dead to rights. I hope he got an extra judicial belting in the cage ( hence the masked face of the perp in the picture)

I am climbing the f walls here.......

Yes, I love Korat. It's my home now.

If you're bored you should take up a hobby. It really does help to pass the time.

Me, I love gardening and keeping tropical fresh water fish.

But I understand Korat isn't everybody's cup of yea.
