Hi :D

I have a bit of a situation i'm not sure how to proceed. I got married this November to my thai wife. We've been living together in Thailand since a bit over 3 years and i was staying on tourist visas then because i am under 50 and not working. I don't have a regular income right now, but i do have about 2M baht in my bank account, which allows for a comfortable life with my wife. I'm aware that i cannot get the extension without a monthly income. I will be getting a regular income however of approximately 60,000 baht per month from my home country in approximately 12-14 months.

The problem is, how can i stay in Thailand and with my wife during this time? I am willing to travel to Penang or elsewhere to get a non-immigrant O visa every 3 months if needed, but i am thinking maybe there is a limit of these visas they're issuing until they 'force' you to extend it in Bangkok? Does anyone know if its possible to get 4 or 5 non-immigrant O visas in a row based on marriage without extending them and until i meet the requirements? Or will they suddenly say "no more O visa for you" and i cannot stay with my wife anymore?

I hope anyone can help me with this :o

This sudden refusal of a visa by a Thai consulate in the region has been reported by a few people regarding the tourist visa, usually in the form of "we give it this time, but don't come back to this consulate for another one". Will the same ever happen with the non-O to visit family? Nobody can tell. Most recent reports indicate that Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore continue to issue it; Singapore even the multiple-entry type. If you can get a multiple-entry visa from Singapore you will OK for close to 15 months. Otherwise, it is single-entry visas for you, or a multiple-entry visa from a Thai consulate in your home country.

You could also arrange employment for your wife to meet the 40k family income. But you only have a year to cover so it should not be much of a problem using non immigrant visas for that time period. I do not expect you to be told no more visits to see your wife.
