Married in HKG, need uncontested divorce worldwide asap

The marriage was never registered in Thailand.

We had married in Hong Kong. But to get divorced there, one or both would need to reside there for months to qualify for court action. No can do.

Q: do you happen to know any jurisdiction or country where 2 long-term separated people can get a quickie divorce?

Las Vegas?

Just asking. We have settled everything 100% and need nolawyers or judges to get involved in that.

Hope to hear from you guys!

You have not said what nationality you both are. If one of you is Thai then yes you can divorce easily if both of you attend the amphur, but if neither of you is Thai then you cannot.

So if I understand this correctly, if you got married abroad (also Hong Kong in our case) but marriage was subsequently registered in Thailand, it is no problem to file for divorce in Thailand.

Once again....no nationality is given.

if one of the parties is Thai and both parties are present and willing then they can divorce at an amphur in Thailand.

Thai (and American, 2 passports and dual citizenship) and German

We hadn't married in Thailand because of the requirement for a silly document stating that the German would be free to marry.

We already had had the Buddhist ceremony in 2008. and that one document would have cost a 6-figure amount in THB. Apostilles, translations, court action overseas. He*l no.

The Chinese embassy won't give an apostille of the original marriage certificate.

We also got photos showing us at the Registrar in Hong Kong, signing the document, taking the oath etc.

Sure, if the Amper would divorce us, then I would hop on a plane and fly back to get it over with. But to register our existing marriage, they still wanted that expensive document showing that the German partner would be "free to get married" (As if the German partner would like to become a bigamist and go to jail over this)

Thanks for your replies, they are all appreciated!

The marriage was never registered here in TH. They wanted the document stating that one would be "free to marry". Kinda absurd in the light of a valid and existing marriage recognized by the USA etc.

It was a serious question. We would fly to Argentina if that's where we could get the uncontested divorce.

Residing in Hong Kong for x months with no income @ what, >$ 100 a day for a hotel room? Forget it!

What you need to do is very simple:

1. have the marriage certificate legalised by the Singaporean Embassy.

2. have it translated into Thai

3  have it stamped by the Thai foreign ministry, consular department at Cheang Wattana Road

4. have done all that take the papers and have the Singaporean marriage registered at any amphur in Thailand

5. file for divorce together at any amphur in Thailand

I was looking up info on divorces in Washington state and if all else is agreed to the cheapest advertised was $139. I am certain that other states also offer cheap divorces. Las Vegas has a waiting period in which you must be a resident of the state. Low cost divorces are available. Also, look up the term comity. It has to do with countries recognition of divorces in other countries and how that can be achieved. A thai divorce can be easily recognized in many states in the USA is you follow the requirements.
