He brought up the system in the US, not me.  And he was completely mistaken.

 

But they never existed, there were no men in black - Chalerm said so and he has a PhD in law, former police officer and senior member of the PTP. So he should know. 

 

Just like Thaksin has never ever done anything wrong in his entire life. He said so on CNN and Korean TV. He wouldn't lie on TV would he?

 

And still the Shin fans lap it up and believe it all. Despite the real facts. 

No we don't just "lap it up".

Many of us regard Thaksin with varying degrees of distaste, cynicism and even dislike.

However we also acknowledge the absolute right of the Thai electorate to select its own government, and oppose the view that that selection process should be placed in the hands of the military or more accurately those whom the military serve.

Personally, l and I suspect several other of the more thoughtful posters ( you would no doubt label us as the "Shin fan club" ) hold to the view that the only way in which the corruption, prevalent in just about every area of public life in this country, can be reduced and ultimately removed is by repeatedly elected governments responding to public demand to do so. A coup installed Junta is in thrall to those interest groups which benefit from the corruption, leaving aside the question of corruption within the military itself.

That's why the Thais must be allowed to select their government.

Perhaps one should consider Thaksin, and the history of the cycle of election victories, coups and replacement by Juntas as a result of Thailand's political failings (essentially deep seated corruption) rather than a cause?

Red shirts may have several flaws (probably not as bad as vehemently depicted in some post that mix proven facts with plain allegations), but they always protested to get elections (you know: letting citizens choose their government),

 

And please don't come up with the bs that I naively believe that democracy is only about elections. Democracy is not only about elections, it is also about allowing democratic debate, freedom of expression, freedom of media, transparency, no nepotism, no cryonism, etc... The red side was poorly performing on some of these dimensions. Now I would like to know how the current bunch is performing better on those additional dimensions (you can add corruption to it).

What Thailand gets is: no election + much worse than the previous government on other dimensions.

Flaws you call it..  now FACT that the red shirts are the black shirts.. the one directly responsible for the army attacking the protesters resulting in the casulties. Now anyone blaming the army again about that one should rethink it as its poorly handled by the army but a direct result of their actions. 

 

There is also a high probability almost a certainty that the reds are the ones that killed the kids and cause the casualties among protesters in BKK and not to forget the massacre in Trad. You call it flaws.. i call it different .. I call them a bunch of violent thugs. 

 

You seem to forget how they attacked Abisith.. how the threw blood threatened judges. Whenever something was not to Thaksins liking he released them to cause trouble.. now they are more like his armed wing then anything else.. fighting for democracy.. and elections..  good one.. paid thugs for hire is more like it.

 

They are the armed wing of the PTP this again is proof of it.. Charlem denying it all is proof of it too..  

 

Without the junta stepping in.. the myth that there were no blackshirts and that they were not red shirt would still exist. The PTP would have suppressed all evidence.. look at Charlem.
