OTTAWA (Reuters) - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's chief spokeswoman on Tuesday demanded that Fox News channel in the United States either retract or update a tweet that a gunman who killed six people at a Quebec mosque was of Moroccan origin because the suspect is in fact French-Canadian.

Spokeswoman Kate Purchase said the tweet on Monday dishonoured the victims "by spreading misinformation, playing identity politics, and perpetuating fear and division within our communities".

A Fox News representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

Sad, yet another white/angry alt-right deranged shooter. Too late, many simpletons already eagerly bought into the FOX narrative , 'bigly'.

Fox + Breitbart (courtesy of Bannon- Trump's TOP advisor & mouthpiece in/out of the 'White'house) and alt-right media have a simplistic but proven winning narrative promoting Muslims = terrorists (knowing their under-educated and/or ignorant, xenophobic, fearful base lap it up = great for ratings and elections) Meanwhile, nevermind white males commit 99% of mass homeland attacks and none of the attacks came from citizens of any of the banned countries (may connected to Saudi Arabia who are not banned but again, nevermind).

And don't expect FOX or Breitbart etc to make any corrections to this story as they already achieved their goal = tar all Muslims as terrorists to their base of stoopid.

Trump is not correcting his statements, why would Fox? The truth and hard facts don't matter anymore, sell lies and win big over hard facts.

Bissonnette was “unfortunately known by several militants in Québec City for his viewpoints that were pro-LePen and anti-feminist, as expressed in social media and at the Université Laval”. Others who knew Bissonnette described him a timid introvert who was a staunch supporter of US president Donald Trump.

FOX has now apparently deleted the tweet but no retraction stating 'mistake' about the shooter's correct identity. Again, nevermind, afterall Trump/Spicer/Conway et al get away with stating 'alternative facts' all the time and if it is a-okay for the Whitehouse to do so, it's all okay one assumes.

Morocan or French Canadian...some may call it BS, others call it "alternative facts"!

In fact there were two suspects arrested. One was French Canadian, one was Moroccan. The Moroccan was later released once Police figured out that he had nothing to do with the attack. It's further complicated by the fact that early reports said there were 3 shooters. So FOX needed to get their facts and timeline straight, alternative facts not needed. No excuse as far as I can see for not doing a retraction. Another example of the harm that can be done in the rush to get a story out there asap.

A clarification would have been nice, once the facts became clear!

I don't care because i don't believe a word that comes out of the trump teams mouths, including farce. And that's what happens when you are a repeat liar.Nobody believes you, even on the rare occasion the truth might slip out.And there you have it,the so called leader of the free world is an untrustworthy liar. Not good at all.

They sure clarified it quickly on Fox News on  TV. I was watching at the time. A lot of website are slow to update the latest news, but Fox has a lot of enemies pointing out every mistake,
