Retirement Extension of Stay - Phuket - Latest

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

For anyone doing their extension of stay, here is the latest from Phuket Immigration as of 1 February 2017:

Retirement extensions of stay are no longer processed upstairs. Proceed to room 103 on the ground level. You will see a sign on the window indicating Retirement extensions.

I arrived early with (what I thought) was everything I needed. There were about 15 or so seats under shade, and a large table with samples of completed forms, along with some blank forms.

Sat right next to the door. About 8:15, a very friendly officer came out, took a quick look at my paperwork, and gave me a queue number. He also informed me that I needed an additional form (TM2 - See below). At 8:30 the first few in the queue were taken inside.

Your passport must contain the "Receipt of Notification" (of address in Thailand.) As long as you have not changed addresses since the last extension, the old Receipt of Notification is still good. You should also have your current TM 6 in the passport.

Forms Needed:

TM 7 Application for Extension of Temporary Stay in the Kingdom (one passport photo needed)

TM 2 Acknowledgement of the conditions for permitted continuation of stay in Thailand

Copies Needed: (all copies of passport pages should be signed)

1) Information page of passport

2) Latest entry stamp in passport

3) TM 6 Departure Card

4) Original VISA in passport (on which the extension is based)

5) EVERY extension of stay in passport since original VISA was issued

6) Proof of funds/income (bank deposit or monthly income)

7) Copy of bankbook (info page) or ATM card along with the original for verification

8) Photo of applicant in front of residence of record showing house number

All of the above were kept by the officer

Documents looked at  (but not kept by officer - not sure if these are still needed)

Copy of rent/lease agreement

Copy of Tabien Baan signed by owner

Copy of owner's ID card signed by owner

Supplemental proof of income (pay stubs)

I was short a couple of copies from above, officer advised which ones I needed very politely. Came back 5 minutes later to the same officer (did not need to re-queue), gave him the additional copies and paid the fee. Sat back down inside the room, and about ten minutes later they took a digital photo. They kept my passport, gave me a receipt, and was advised to return the next business day at 1 PM to pick it up. Entire process took less than one hour.

On this visit, gone were the old days of pushing, queue jumping, and general chaos. The entire process was handled very well and very efficiently. My best visit to Phuket Immigration by far. My compliments to all the staff - things have VASTLY IMPROVED over the last few years.

  • Hi,   Just wanted to say THANKS to exppenang for the comprehensive list, exactly what I wanted to know :-)    Cheers, BB

  • I don't think it would have TM2 on it. A TM2  is a " INFORMATION OF CONVEYANCE" form. The acknowledgement form has no TM number on it. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/form_ackno

  • I saw that but it is in clear conflict with an existing TM2 just labeled ตม.2 without any prefix.   See also the download list: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php?page=dow

ubonjoe is always faster

I know this "ackknowledgement" from the past (Khon Kaen) and it has no official "TM" number.

I don't have 4 or 5 above as the original visa was issued 20 years ago and that passport has been lost. I have been getting marriage extensions up until now. Does this mean I cannot now get a retirement extension?

No problem those are not actually required.

You probably have a stamp in your passport that has info about your visa entry and the lost passport that is equal to the original visa.

You also only need the copies of the extensions that are in your new passport.

Immigration has not seen my old passport or copies of it since they transferred the stamps from my old one to my new one.

Thanks for the super fast reply.

Can I also assume a visit to my home will also not be needed? I intend going abroad for a few weeks soon after getting my extension. I live in Chayaphum where there is a new immigration office.

In my experience the transfer stamp negates the need to provide copies of prior extensions. I still keep my old passport and bring it with me when doing extensions, just in case.

I am told this translates to "form STM 2".

STM?  Statement.

สำนักงาน "Office' probably, meaning a local production. I thought this was for retirement extension and the Thai has in brackets 'change of juristic person, whatever this means. Naturally Bangkok doesn't have this form.

It would appear to be this form:

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

The last item in the OP list re photo in front of house with number is something new, never before in my 12 yearly extensions in Phuket.

I have already downloaded the TSM2 form ready for my next visit, but they will give you one at the office, on the day, and it 's easy to complete anyway.

The usual badly worded form where you simply acknowledge you must inform them if your  circumstances change after your application. Probably completely unnecessary for a retiree.

Something new the ever inventive Phuket Office has come up with to inconvenience their clients. It's only required for marriage in most other Offices nationwide.

A simple photo printed on A4 suffices.

Thanks for the detailed report. My wife and I need to do our first ever extension in the next couple of months, and as it will be our first ever contact with Thai immigration, other than at border crossings / airports, this information is very useful.

This form STM.2 (สตน.๒) probably was not a local creation by the Phuket immigration office, as I have seen posts mentioning its use at other immigration offices in the past. Below is the memo with which the form was sent to the immigration offices, apparently issued by immigration headquarters on 10 June 2014 and signed by the deputy commander of the Immigration Bureau.

Indeed, Rayong definitely use this form as well, which they handed to me for completion on both my last 2 annual extensions.

Please read again. That comment was not about the TSM2 form.
The something new I was referring to was the requirement for a photo in front of your residence for retirement extensions. Elsewhere that is for marriage cases only. Are you aware of other offices doing this?

Sorry I remember now, I probably did sign this form once, The IO filled in my name etc. I signed it. So Bangkok does have it in my file, it wouldn't surprise me if in the provinces it is not appreciated that a signature does not go out of date!

Ah, yes, now I see it. Your post was a reply to a post about photos, not the earlier discussion about the form STM.2 (it is not TSM). My apologies.

I will be doing my first extension of stay based on retirement. Do I still need to show proof of income that was required to get the non O single entry recently?

Yes you need to show proof of income to apply for the extension. Where did you get the non-o visa?

I got the non o in Peñang.

You could show the same income letter you used to get the visa. They are valid for 6 months.

Will do Joe. On another note,as I can't find answer anywhere on tv,I'm in Hat Yai and need to have a document I will sign attested to for my pension declaration form. I've asked many people but to no avail. Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.

You will need a letter from your embassy to apply for the extension of stay. I assumed you already had one from them.

If you need something notarized most law offices can do it.

I maybe wasn't clear. Nothing to do with visa,it's to satisfy my pension provider back in my country. I've looked online, and haven't managed to locate a lawyer and it seems Thailand doesn't have J.P.s.
