i my gf and kid went to a thai consulate and it was no problem for me to get a 2 month or even 6 month tourisit visa.  took the 2 month because it was for free but was surprised how easy they are giving the 6 month( = 9 month) visa away

just they wouldn´t issue a visa to gf and kid because they have no residence in the country we applied (i have).  crazy,   before this didn´t matter at all.

anyway now gf + kid will arrive without visa and get a 30 day visa exempt stamp. Did a lot of reading and research, if it would be possible to extend this 30 days stay by another 30 days at any  immigration office in Thailand or not. Some websites will tell you yes no problem, some telling its not possible. i was almost certain there would be no problem , it was never in the years before

BUT then i found this @ official  "immigration office" website

http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/base.php?page=faq

15.Question  : Could the alien entering into the Kingdom with exemption of visa apply for extension of stay?  If so , for how long will they get?

Answer : Normally, if the alien entering into the Kingdom with exemption of visa apply for extension of stay permit,he/she would get the stamp in order to leave the Kingdom within 7 days from the expried date."

So i dont know whats accurate and if they changed anything in 2017, it´s quiete confusing at least for me.

Did anybody here recently extended the 30 day visa exempt stay by another 30 days at immiration ? any answer would be much appreciated

I extended a visa exempt 30 day entry in May 2016 at CW in Bangkok.

No problem then, but that was the first and only time I did so.

As far as L know it would still be possible.

Visa exempt entries can be extended by 30 days, USUALLY. The 7 days to leave the country was true until a few years ago. However, a word of warning. Some nationals enter on a visa exempt entry that is the result of a bilateral agreement (not the unilateral grant of visa exempt entry for Western tourists and some other nationalities). There is no extension of stay possible for those visa exempt entries based on bilateral agreements. This can be confusing. It is always best to give the nationalities of the people affected, just so we can be sure we are applying the correct rules in advising you.
