Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen with a single entry (2 month) visa, which I would like to extend for one month. I entered Thailand Jan.10th & would like to extend it on Feb. 15th - Is this possible? In Krabi?

Also, does anyone a a visa extension form in pdf.

 Thank You

The usual time for applying is not earlier than one week before expiry of your current stay.

Your current stay expires on March 10, so you should not go before March 3.

The extension form is TM7:

http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/form_tm7.pdf

It's a two page form and if you want to fill and print on the computer you have to print duplex (both sides of the sheet).

But easy to fill at the office where original forms are suplied.

A photo is required (4*6 cm officially).

You might need to proof where you stay (hotel bill e.g.).

1900 Baht.

Thank you - but before March 3 is not possible?

Some offices will do them up to 2 weeks early. Not sure about Krabi though. I few days before the 3rd should be ok.

I am curious your opinion as to the reason why the extension cannot be done at any time.

What is immigration trying to prevent by wanting it done a week or two before the visa expires?

Don't think too much - if you try and rationalise (let alone QUESTION) what each immigration office does you will be a basket case in no time!

Absolutely!

Save your mental health

You might pose the question the other way around and ask why most "tourists" can't manage to plan on doing the extension a week or two before their permission to stay expires?

Chaengwatthana Bangkok does them 1 month in advance (starting with day 31 out of the 60).

Based on own experience, I've done it about 3 weeks before once. And I did ask them as well one time and they confirmed it.

Not valid for other immigration offices.

Yes. They will ask to proof the place you are staying. I bought a contract template (it is in Thai Language) at the Lan House, got it signed by my land lord as well copy of her ID Card(signed by her), copy of her Tabien Baan(signed), since they did not accepted our Tabien Baan (House Registrar) because it is from another province.

But, this request is new, because last year I did the same procedure and IO accepted.

If he applies for the 30 day extension 1 week before his visa expires will the new 30 days start from his original expiry date or from the day he applies??

I have already got a pre -booked return flight ticket & i need to do a visa 30 day extension but if i apply 1 wk befpre my visa expires it will put me into 9 days overstay.

I am already on 2 days overstay due to a cock-up at Laos border so a week early application  will put me 7 more days.

Please advise

Thanks

Extension starts from the original expiry date.

Nothing to win/loose with being early.

Being late will cost overstay (at least).

I disagree with khunBENQ. I recently did my extension a month before permission to stay expired. Is there any official announcement backing up his assertion.

I agree with Briggsy - What s the difference - They will get the 1900 baht regardless. My concern is with the Krabi office?

extensions are simply added on the end of your initial  permitted to stay date

therefore there is no point in going early since your extension will always start at the end of original date anyhow.

Perhaps it is convenient to go in early as there may be an opportunity to go to an immigration office when visiting a provincial capital. Some people live a long way from an immigration office, often a boat ride or long drive.

The topic is about when an extension is able to be made not when you advise it should be made according to your own criteria.
