THE COMMERCE Ministry will formally ask the Legal Execution Department this week to confiscate Bt20 billion from former officials held responsible for losses stemming from allegedly fake rice-export deals announced as part of the previous government’s rice-pledging scheme.

The decision was reached at a meeting yesterday between senior officials from the departments of Foreign Trade and Legal Execution, with the order to confiscate to be made on Tuesday – Valentine’s Day.

Duangporn Rodphaya, director general of Foreign Trade, said that both agencies had been working closely on the matter.

It's good to be a minister in Thailand, with 20 billions of baht in assets

why would you want to be in business earn an honest baht like the rest

of people and rake in the billions?.....

If all that money is sitting here in Thailand just waiting for the taking these boys have misread the chickens entrails. They should have spotted this freight train coming down the tracks as soon as it left the station. They definitely are the flavor of the day, month and year.

Surely standard procedure would be to wait for them to be found guilty? Seems very strange to seize assets prior to even being found guilty of a crime. Under what pretense can they seize someones assets? Perhaps they mean freeze?

Under the same pretense that they seize power and give themselves total immunity from past present and future transgressions. ?

They want it.

They need it - the cash is rather running out.

Now these characters may well be corrupt. It is for a court to rule, and for a court to order assets to be seized.

If asset seizures are being conducted as "orders" agreed between officials of departments in an unaccountable junta installed government, and principally directed at those the coup ousted,  is it any wonder that foreign investment is drying (has dried) up?

I hope they don't forget Yingluck !

These people are the real thieves in this sorry saga, not Yingluck who put her trust in government officials that , true to Thai practice just could not keep their fingers out of the till.  They are the ones who deserve to pay for their theft.

She didn't put her trust in anyone and nor is she innocent. She appointed herself Chair of the scheme and repeatedly said she was in charge, nobody else. She chose to not only ignore internal and external warnings, failing to check or take any action, but actually admonished and persecuted some for daring to comment.

But please, do explain for all our benefit, how appointing yourself Chair, then never bothering to attend the meetings you were supposed to chair; or taking any actions when warnings were given isn't negligence.
