Work visa to Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I have lost my job and within 2 weeks my boss is going to cancel my workpermit/work visa. I would like to stay in Thailand for another month to pack my stuff, say farewell etc.... and so would need a 30-day tourist visa to stay here.

Can I just go to immigration in Chiang Mai and change my work visa into a 30-day tourist visa? Or do I have to leave Thailand and enter again in order to get a tourist visa? Any advice?

You would be the one that would have to cancel the extension you have at immigration. I am certain you don't have a valid visa. Your employer would need to give you a termination letter with the date you job ends. You could to immigration a few days before that date and they would postdate it to that date.

You cannot get a tourist visa at immigration. A tourist visa would be applied for at a embassy or consulate and would allow a 60 day entry.

You could do a border hop to get a 30 day visa exempt entry at Mae Sai or Chiang Khong.

At this moment I got a valid work visa + work permit.

But it's no problem to get a tourist visa on arrival for 30 days when entering Thailand again is what I make up out of your story right?

That case I'll go for a short break to Singapore :) Always wanted to visit that city!

If you go to SG you will receive 30 days when you arrive back, you can also extend that by 30 days at your local Immigration, cost 1900 Baht if you wanted to stay a little longer

30 days would be enough for me to sort things out and say goodbye here...

Btw now tourist visa extention is free temporary, recently extended till august.

Thanks! Good to know I don't need to worry about getting a 30 day tourist visa on arrival after coming back to Thailand just after my workvisa gets cancelled.

Single entry tourist visas are until August at embassies and consulates. The 30 day extension of the 60 day entry a tourist visa allows is not free you still have to pay 1900 baht for it.

There is no 30 day tourist visa on arrival. It does not exist. You get a 30 day visa exempt entry. A visa on arrival is only allows a 15 day entry after applying for it and paying a fee for it for those from certain countries.
