A TRUCK overloaded with timber caused a bridge surface to collapse in Kampot province’s Chhouk district early yesterday. District and national police said the truck was on its way to Vietnam. The driver fled the scene.

District police chief Chhun Saly said damage happened to the Stung Koh Sla Bridge in Ta Ken commune. Mr. Saly did not know what kind of wood was on the truck or what the quantity was.

However, the National Police report said the Hyundai truck was carrying 15 cubic meters of timber from Kampong Speu province. Kampot provincial police chief Mao Chanmathurith said he had a report that the truck was stopped elsewhere by the provincial forestry administration.
