Online and shopping. Same pronunciation in Thai and Eng.

Can you list anymore. I'm trying to learn more words as quickly as possible.

but we can add:

- free

- true (brand)

- fiber

- racing

- kaputt

- hamburger

- notebook

- TV

- computer

- bowling

- badminton

- tennis

- golf...

Yep, loanwords, so not very special.

The Thai language has many borrowed words from Sanskrit, Tamil, Portuguese, Dutch, certain Chinese dialects and more recently, Arabic (in particular many Islamic terms), English (in particular many scientific and technological terms).

...though some English loanwords have been thoroughly "tinglished" beyond recognition.

So many loanwords and for our entertainment written in Thai script.

The no. 1 to my observations is ฟรี. So much free in this country

It helps a lot if one knows about the limitations of Thai language in terms of sounds/end consonants.

No sex in Thailand, only sek

Not shopping. Thais say "chop-ping" as in "cha pai chop-ping", with a sharp o as in go. In fact, I think many won't understand "I am going shopping." said by an American with a sibilant s and rolling o.

Don't forget VIP

Came to my mind as just a VIP van (with senior monk) was escorted by police.

True, but I love how they pronounce them, the thai way ,  it makes me smile every time  ( one of my prefered one, "Bill Gates ", pronounced " Biou gate " )

monnney !! ....this word seems universal to it's meaning and pronounciation !!:cheesy:

ไฟ = fire

May be also a loan word but too long ago that nobody has recorded its history even in any myth. Every thai perceives this word as their pure own thai word.

เพลิง is the ภาษาเขมร word for fire, used in some words eg. รถดับเพลิง . Between ไฟ and เพลิง which was the first to be used in Thai? I suppose that when the concept of the four elements ดิน ไฟ นำ้ ลม came to Thailand was the time when ไฟ entered the language.
