UK passport renewal - how to section 3!!

Featured Replies

I'm having trouble with understanding a question on the current UK passport application form (I'm renewing a full passport)

any ideas what they mean by this section. It is the initial question I have a problem with..........

A - "Has the person named in section 2 had any sort of passport (British or otherwise) or been included in any passport before?

Yes - Go to 3B below

No

Well, I've held a British passport for decades and I don't have them any more - so I have no idea of what numbers they were.

I don't have any uncanceled passports - only the one I'm renewing.

Alan, I renewed my UK passport last year but the application form is still the same now as it was then.

I kept a copy of my filled in form so I can tell you what I put on it.

Answer 'YES' as you have had previous passports.

They are only interested in uncancelled passports and you probably only have one - the one that is about to expire and that you are renewing.  Therefore put '1' in the 'how many' box and then just put the number of your current passport in the first of the number fields. You don't need to provide any information about previously expired and cancelled passports.

This worked OK for me.

Thanks for your reply - you have cleared it up for me! What I hadn't noticed was the "how many" box - which actually isn't marked - but I see where it is now.

Now that I see that the rubric makes sense....or at least a little more sense.

I this is the 4th passport in about 10 years and every time has been different - first the embassy Bkk, then Hong kong, then direct to UK and now interview at trendy first....I get the impression that the accompanying forms this time are a little less obvious than before - for instance there is no mention of a "full" passport - only renewing one that has expired....Ok I got over that one but I just couldn't work out that section 3 without your pointing out of the "how many" box....thanks for that!

Its not an interview, a cursory document check would be the best description.
