Dog devocalization surgery in Bangkok: possible or not?

Before dog lovers get on the case, consider the case below.

 

My neighbor with whom I have a very good relationship recently acquired a 1-year old dog. I am not 100% sure of the race (might be mixed) but it's the kind of little <deleted> dog that does nothing except barking. For around a month now, the dog barks all night, even when the owners keep it in the house. It's is a very high-pitched and extremely loud bark that will make your blood boil even during daytime. My neighbor and I talked about that, and we tried several things to stop the barking:

 

1) We tried many different kinds of food, in case it was a food problem - no result.

2) We let the dog roam free in the mooban - no result. He walks around and barks everywhere.

3) I paid 15,000 baht for the services of someone who is a "dog trainer", for 5 visits of 2 hours with the dog - I wasted my money.

4) We ordered a anti-bark shock collar (surprised it made it through customs) - the dog just kept shocking himself and it was a pity to look at him this way.

5) They tried everything, from spending more/less time, playing some music, etc. - no result.

 

Whether the owner is at home or not, the dog still barks the same. We are only left with two options: devocalization, or euthanasia.

 

We obviously prefer the first option, as the dog was a present for her daughter and they would be very saddened to have to kill the dog. So I'm asking the community, is there anywhere where we can take the dog to have it devocalized? I obviously prefer a good clinic, because we don't want botched result nor suffering. My pregnant wife and I are just trying to catch some sleep without being interrupted every 2 hours.

Why is it that thai dogs always cry whole days and in my farangland we don't have that?

Anyway this sounds like a really dumb dog. You already put the shocker on it and it still persists. Put the shocker back on and just wait longer for this dumb mutt to realise that when he stops barking he doesn't get shocked. Other than that, I feel you have no other alternative than that of the big kennel in the sky.

We also have a dog, and they often play together. Our dog (baby golden retriever) is always silent, and the other dog barks all the time. Fortunately, our dog doesn't follow.

 

It I bring it to the temple, I might "forget" him there, if you see what I mean. Plus, it'll be a burden for the monks.

 

I tried hitting it everytime it barks - he stops for a few minutes, gives me enough time to go back up the room and put my head on the pillow, then starts again.

 

As for the treat, not sure it would work.

 

The shocker is on as I write this, and I can hear him barking. It's really pitiful, I think he'll roast himself before realizing what's going on.

That means it works, next time he starts after hitting you just walk to the door and yell to him...if he doesn't stop you go to him with raised hand so he knows what's gonna happen.

 

Do that every time, you'll see that he understands the message and later only a yell will be enough...if not you go to him with raised hand....

 

If you keep on doing this consequently he should stop it one day i guess. Also the neighbours should do that cause it's their dog. If the one who feeds it trains him it has more effect.

 

Or you start spraying water if it barks, keep the hose at the door and do it every time.....also yell loud to him to stop that...if he shuts up for an hour you praise him....

Getting another one will just double the problem, barking dogs are a nightmare here, we are surrounded by 15. House round the corner has 6, all with the owners out at work all day. You are lucky at least your neighbor talks to you, usually mention their precious little doggie barking all day and like a petulant child they never speak to you again

Had a problem with a dog constantly barking on the Patio of a Condo 2 floors down from me (why do people have dogs in Condos!) & I took to spraying a little bit of water on it which seemed to surprise it enough to stop barking.

Could also try a Dog whistle but key is to surprise them & make them forget what they were doing (I.e. Barking) which is what the shock collar should be doing but clearly isn't working.

to euthanase a dog because it barks is just plain weird and shows a total lack of respect to all things living on this planet.

 

i wish condos and housing villages had more dogs ot would drown out the tv's on full volume or revved up motorbikes racing around and music being played from the local street stall.

 

why dont you guys just love the dog and treat it like family then maybe it might be a different personality.

 

Like someone else in this thread stated i never heard so many dogs bark in the west maybe they were just more happier dogs

When you have a pregnant wife at home, work to do, but the neighbor's dog is the one deciding about your sleep schedule, I'll agree with you. We live in a very quiet moo-ban of 12 houses with no stalls, no motorbikes (I'm the only one having a bike), and nobody doing anything loud. When there's no dog, you can hear insects flying, it's total silence. But when the dog wakes you up at 3:30, 5:00, 6:15, and 7:00 every morning and you spend all day tired and with nausea due to lack of sleep, you'll want to silence the "cute little doggy". The dog is the only noise in the moo-ban.

Friend of mine had a problem akin to the OP and tried everything except the shocker and nothing worked. In the end he took it down the vet. and had it de-woofed which worked a treat as far as volume is concerned. Funny thing was, that when it had healed the sound was hilarious that you couldn't help but laugh. Worked out well because when he takes it out for a walk it gets a mountain of attention and people walk away with a smile on their face.

Given that your wife is pregnant, I would prioritize her comfort over some neighbor's worthless dog.

You can be dead sure that your neighbor will prioritize his/her dog over the 'relationship' between the two of you.

Either get the dog euthanized or temporarily relocate until the time your wife delivers.

If moving is an option, then move.
