spidermike007
Just another blazing idiot, showing the world his terribly tiny brain capacity, mixed with his over raging hormones. A deadly mix, sometimes if one does not have effective parenting, which this little worm obviously did not. That combined with absolutely no deterrent from the RTP, makes for a toxic combination. If they knew there was a price to be paid for reckless driving it would be possible some of them would not engage in this kind of behavior. But, the toy police do nothing about these cretons, and they continue their rampage, daily. There is absolutely no concern for public or traffic safety on the part of the RTP (Royal Toy Police). I take it that you sight restricted (challenged) and do not drive! As previously stated Thailand is number 2 country in the world for deaths per 100,000 people and has been in the top 5 for years. The problem is never addressed, there are no Traffic Police to monitor driving and apprehend dangerous drivers, no licence points system leading to disqualification after a number of offences, you do not lose your licence for being found guilty of DUI (except in exceptional circumstances where your actions killed at least 5 people), red lights mean nothing and the level of driving skill is appalling. The 'driving test' is a joke etc etc etc. You are the ill informed expat and your ridiculous comments and statements will do nothing to help the cause for safer roads and better driving standards in Thailand for everyones benefit, Thais, Expats and Visitors alike. One day you will be sitting patiently waiting to turn right at a a U-turn when two 17 year olds crash into you doing 90. Despite having no licence and only one helmet between them, they will sue you and your insurance company for NINE million. Racist cops will insist it is your fault and bring charges against you. You will then start looking beyond Thailand's borders. I know. This is scary!
djayz
Until the police seriously clamp down on this kind of driving, the general attitude isn't going to change here. People will always do what they want if they believe they can get away with it. In many other countries, people caught driving like this would lose their driving licence/or be issued points (e.g. in the EU) and probably receive a hefty fine in addition to this. Here, you pay a copper a few Baht to look the other way and you're on your way again. There is simply nothing in place to deter such poor driving behaviour. @ Mr Deer, this is by no means a "racist" issue. Look at the statistics. Thailand has the second highest number of road deaths per annum. Why is that? A lack of proper training, testing and policing - and all of that just so that people don't "lose face" by failing an exam or being reprimanded on the roadside for dangerous driving. sweatalot
I see this kind of driving too often in Thailand. Much more often than in other countries I know (about 99 % more often, I guess) On the other hand condemning every Thai driver is over the top. I guess at least 90 % that I encountered don't show the stupid behavior shown in this video
luk AJ
Alan Deer do you sit at home all day with the curtains closed? Yours are the only uninformed comments here. Anybody that has driven on Thailand roads KNOWS how bad the drivers are. Have you SEEN the driving test? All completed in 5 minutes in a small compound with no other drivers and the 'examiner' sitting at a table watching about 50% of the time. Or are you just yanking everybody's chain? When I bought my first car here, my girlfriend, who has a licence asked me (referring to the pedals) "which one is go and which one is stop?".Two months ago I was just waiting in front of a red light when a car smashed into the rear. The impact was so severe that an unopened can of coke sitting in the middle between the two front seats exploded. Accident was caused by a female driver who mistakenly pushed the throttle pedal to the end iso the break. In case this was your girlfriend.....Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect
Alan Deer
It is a sad reflection on many of the TV members that they are prepared to comment on a subject about which they know so little that they aren't even aware of their own ignorance of the topic. my guess is it is Dunning Kruger effect... because people went to school they think they know about education because they've been in hospital they think they know about healthcare and \because they drive a vehicle they think they know about road safety..... sadly this couldn't be further from the truth - it is patently obvious that many here mistake personal experience and anecdote for the real assessment of the situation, when in actual fact all that is happening is confirmation bias and this video is a classic example of that. Well, I'll give you that this video doesn't improve road safety but a racist attack...you can't be serious! This was on the early morning Thai news this morning along with a couple of other incidents. One, a Pickup did almost the same but on a open road and one vehicle in front...the result was the same, hit the central reservations and took a tumble to the left. You don't need an intelligent analysis to see the stupidity in these (drunk or otherwise). What you do need is a) being taught the value of life, driving schools to teach road etiquette, and c) serious laws like license banned for years or life and much stiffer fines...and that's just for starters! In every country there will always be the odd driver that defy the rules but Thailand doesn't have the second worse drive/deaths in the world because of racism. In fact, it is statements like yours that feeds racism.
